    Sri Lanka Aggressor Problems

2/2 AND THEN; 2 days before the end of the trip, midway through the morning's whale snorkeling, 3 adult Blue Whales were seen, unlike every other whale we had seen (all individuals) , they were not diving or rushing away at the first sign of our boats, instead they were spending far longer at...

    Sri Lanka Aggressor Problems

1/2 I was lucky enough to be on what turned out to be the final Sri Lanka Aggressor.....Here is my take; Our concerns for this trip began way back in October with poor reports of the opening snorkel trips. Never the less we decided to go head. These concerns escalated hugely in the days before...

Overnight in Sorong or chance AM arrival?

Before my LOB in RA from Sorong I had taken 4 or 5 domestic Indonesian flights and non were cancelled or even late, however, I count myself extremely lucky, as I am told this was rare. Sorong is a toilet, however, I would still advise to arrive the day before. Its worth spending the extra...

Galapagos Sky Liveaboard in January 2016

Galapagos is awesome, but you may want to research the effects of this year's El nino event which is predicted to extend into 2016. I have read that the warmer water temps push the sharks deeper or the move away altogether as well as having other effects on fish life, and topside wildlife too...

How to deal with Fiji in 10 days?

I would second the vote for Taveuni and also recommend Nakia resort and their dive shop highly. I have done both shore based diving and LOB in Fiji on separate trips and found Taveuni to give you what you are looking for. Make sure to plan to dive The Great White Wall, have dived this place...

4th time back and stuck between Malapascua or Moalboal

Having dived both my advice would be.......do both!!!! I am doing this over the coming Chinese New Year and cannot wait! I think it is hard to compare the 2 places because they both offer very different diving which is why both should be on any Cebu itenary. Moalboal and Pescador Island do...

    Thailand diving for newbies

I think a 4 day live aboard in the Similans would be a perfect way to get some good diving in a short space of time. I can highly recommend the White Manta. My wife and I went on the Similans trip a couple of years ago and were impressed enough to take a trip on one of their Malaysian...

Wanted - Nauticam Housing and accesories for Cannon G12

I currently use my G12 with an Ikelite housing and strobe set up. While I am satisfied with the housing and strobe I am looking to "upgrade" to either a Nauticam or Recsea housing and Strobes to offer more flexibility on wide angle and macro lenses. As I am very happy with the camera, and to...

Fiji vs Tonga vs Cook Islands

On Taveuni we stayed at Nakia resort and Dive, I can highly recommend them. A Beautiful family owned and run eco lodge. Very friendly owners and staff who couldn't do enough for us, particularly when we had a disruption to our flight schedule. Great hospitality and great food. The daughter of...

Fiji vs Tonga vs Cook Islands

Hey, I went to Fiji and Tong last year and loved both. Never been to the Cook islands so cant comment there. Firstly, Tonga, we went around late August time, specifically for the humpback whale migration. Being able to get into the water with these magnificent animals is breathtaking and...

Help with deploying a safety sausage

I think the most important point is that an SMB is always deployed. How it is deployed and what equipment is used should be down to individual preference as long as it is done safely and within the divers comfort and skill level so as not to task load.

Help with deploying a safety sausage

As it should be. Your point about holiday divers is correct. Divers following DMs around and relying on them to send up an SMB. In many places it is rarwe to see even the DM send one up, some simply give a squirt of bubbles from the octo and some just simply surface, with zodiacs zooming...

Palau or Philipines? Been to Solomons and wonder if anything could beat that?

Sure. We went on board The Palau Aggressor. Not the cheapest, but for comfort, dive op, food and great crew, they were probably the best LOB we have taken in 8-9 LOBs. All the diving is done from a very well equipped and spacious skiff that is carried by the main vessel on a hydraulic cradle...

Help with deploying a safety sausage

I think it is crazy that this potentially life saving skill is not taught right back in OW training. From memory it is not even part o AOW or Rescue training....

Palau or Philipines? Been to Solomons and wonder if anything could beat that?

I've been to both Palau (Livaboard) and Philippines (Moalboal, Malapascua & Sabang). Both are excellent regions for diving, both contain lots underwater. It is possible to see both macro and big stuff in both locations however, Philippines is largely dominated by Coral and Macro life (Thresher...
