Help! Want to dive in Tortola

We are going to be in Tortola next week via cruise ship and cant find a dive operator to dive with. I have had a reservation with Dive Tortola for a month and they emailed me yesterday and cancelled us because they took on another group of cruise line passangers and are now all full! They...

    Why do you dive?

Because I love to travel and see the world. Diving gives me a good reason to go to places I would not normally visit. And also because I like to do things that most people don't get to experience, I like the challenge!

    Curacao

If someone at the airport hands you something take it....it's a resturant guide. We ate at many of the different resturants on the island and never had a bad meal! Can't wait to go again. Need a buddy :)

How were your first experiences in diving?

My first dive experience was a resort course in Maui. I did fine in the pool but once in the ocean I had a full blown panic attack. I kept watching the water line get higher and higher over my head, I couldn't get one ear to clear and totally freaked out. I had tried snorkling for the first...

We're going on a cruise in a couple of months and plan to dive as much as possible. Our ship stops at Nassau in the morning for 5 hours, St Maarten for an afternoon, Tortola all day and Half Moon Cay all day. Does anyone have recommendations for favorite dive sites or operators on these...

New to diving, need help with a few questions.

I have a couple of ear suggestions: 1) I always pre-equalize them just before slipping the surface and 2) if one ear wont equalize turn your head so that ear is parallel with the surface and then blow. It usually works for me. As for gear my recomendation is to talk to lots of local dive shops...

    How old were you?

Snorkled for the first time at 30 in Hawaii, tried scuba the next day. I thought it was cool but very scary. Got certified a year later and went to Curacao for some really awesome diving. Cant wait to go back!

We are headed to Curacao in just a couple of days. This will be our first "real" dive experience since becomming certified in May. Do you have any last minute advice before we go? I'd love suggestions about what kind of a save a dive kit to take. We have all of our own gear (brand new)...

    Beginning diving in Florida

    water up nose problem

I have had this problem too. After I put the mask on I just pinch my nose, take a good breath and then look up and exhale to clear it. Otherwise I will get water up my nose. Like you I dont think I am breathing with my nose, I dont mean to but I do. Maybe not the best solution but it works...

Hubby and I did our open water dives this weekend and passed with flying colors! Thanks everyone who helped answer my questions and fears about removing and replacing the mask. I took my time with it and I did not get water up my nose, not even one drop. I would have liked to have done it a...

    Question about restricted breathing

I sympathize with you and your girlfriend. My hubby and I took a resort course while in Hawaii. I did fine in the pool but once we went to the ocean I began to panic and I felt like I could not get enough air from my reg. The conditions were rough and I was just too nervous. I didn't feel...

Need refferal for insturctor near Salt Lake

What is the deal with "universal" cards and having to go back to your original instructor to sign off etc? Would the SSI instructor give us an SSI card then? Or would we have to go back to the PADI instructor we started with? Sorry I am ignorant about this!

Need refferal for insturctor near Salt Lake

I actually did check with them and they are SSI. We just had a very brief conversation with them but they did seem nice. However I understand there are some drawbacks to finishing with another agency vs sticking with what you started with??
