    Maldives - long hose configuration/octopus

There's also a legal depth limit of about 98' but no sign of the scuba police or computer monitors on last trip.

    Rock boots

I also use Altimas and find that they have held up much better then the EVOs. It also depends on the drysuit sock, my old Whites had a thin fabric sock, but the Santi has a stiffer neoprene sock, so with the Altimas, I normally wear an 11 street shoe, but a 14 on the rock boot.

SeaFrogs housings for A7C2 or A6700?

I shoot the WWL-1B and carry the CMC-1, so a 5 second swap to macro works very well, but wish for higher res on crop.

    Reg or Camera purchase next?

I never trusted the AI and always just had a simple SPG, works good, lasts long time. If you can swing camera, as mentioned, that will give you a bit more lasting memory for the trip.

SeaFrogs housings for A7C2 or A6700?

Finding the exact same, normal use, the 90mm is a really nice lens, but I've also done some blackwater off HI with A7C/90mm and see the very same thing. I've managed some decent shots, but the min focus distance really doesn't help cropping with the 24Mp. Thus also thinking about the A7CR. I use...

SeaFrogs housings for A7C2 or A6700?

I'll have to dig into the menu on A7C, but off-hand, is that a current menu on that earlier model?

Guam as port of entry - 1.5 hours enough?

Less than 12 hours at GUM, you might be OK, but a bit tight. I know if over 12 hours, you need to pick up bags and re-check. You'll do immigration at the gate for HNL there at GUM and you'll have to pick up bags in HNL and re-check for LAX. At least that was the case last June.

Rigging my underwater camera, how I did mine

I started out with the thought of the WWL-1B on the bottom caddy, but thought it was going t get a bit of abuse. This probably gives as good an image as any, but the WWL-1B is on a caddy attached to the right Nauticam float and keeps it out of the way and protected. Since it's almost neutral in...

    Tech Shorts Recommendations

I had a pair of the Mares which had some defects and ripped on the first weekend, but they were good enough to swap out and send a new pair. I don't normally use them but they survived 10 days of diving wrecks at Chuuk in good shape.

Continue or stop diving with a PFO?

I'm not the biggest fan of diving Nitrox with an Air setting on the computer, rather have the correct info then not try to fool myself. Macfod could be served well by learning GF settings, applying a conservative setting, then monitoring SfGF.

Heated vests - Do they actually work ?

Just a point of caution: do use diving specific heat. Had a buddy that used converted motorcycle vest and the fuse sparked under water. Unfortunately, he plumbed his suit off of a BO bottle with 50% and ended up with a suit fire, burned through suit, and some 3rd degree burns on upper back.

    Recent Trip on Maldivian Air?

I have an upcoming trip from Male to Kooddoo and wondering about camera and dive gear packing. Looks like standard baggage is 20Kg and carry-on is 5kg. Any recent experiences with weight checks etc?

First trip to Kona, Diving with Big Island Divers - Blackwater Dive Questions

I'd say that it depends. The bulk of the critters you'll see are fairly small with exceptions of some potentially big salps. Photography of these little animals really takes practice and some decent equipment and practice. Basically, you'll be in several thousand feet of water hanging by a line...

Wide angle and macro in the same dive

No problems, works out fairly well. With the built-in float collar, the WWL-1B isn't that intrusive.

Wide angle and macro in the same dive

I have two bayonet caddies. Off the right post, I have a triple clamp, and on one of those, I have a 6" ball-arm. On the end of that arm I have a 2nd bayonet holder for the WWL-1B. Another bayonet holder is clamped to the Nauticam float and this seems to work well for swapping out lens.

Wide angle and macro in the same dive

I've been using the A7C, initially with the 28-60 and associated port for most of the u/w photography, combined with a WWL-1B for wide angle, and then carry a CMC-1 or -2 on a caddy. Even here in Seattle, it's a good combination and easily manageable. I did add the 90mm Sony macro with the port...

    Any Prism2 BMCL users? Opinion?

Couple answers... - Haven't noticed a WOB diff in moving from FMCLs. So far, happy with them. - No, wing has no impact that I've noticed. - Get the dump valves on each lung, no issues in flush and sanitize without removing BMCLs. - never had to drain on a dive. - Seems a bit more difficult to...

Question Tec Divers - Big Island

Get in touch with 'Zilla at Jack's Diving Locker, he's got pretty good tabs on that. Might also depend on what you're looking for as HE is in short supply on-island if not insanely expensive if you can find it. If you're talking CCR, Jack's supports O2 and sorb. Another consideration, there's no...
