    Ruang Volcano erupting

The Guardian reports that officials fear it may collapse and trigger a tsunami. Hope it doesn’t come to that.

[high budget] Raja Ampat Liveaboard suggestions?

Arenui. Gorgeous boat, great crew, great food. Get one of the master cabins on the upper deck if available, but the lower deck cabins are also nice.

Fly Into Jakarta Or Bali For Raja Ampat Trips?

As of late November 2023, there was a brand new direct flight from Denpasar to Sorong. A couple on our RA boat was on the maiden flight (they expected to stop in Makassar when they booked, but got the first direct flight). I can’t remember which airline, maybe Garuda? Worth checking whether that...

Question Little Cayman Beach REsort vs Cayman Brac Beach Resort?

When we were in Little Cayman in fall 2022 they still took us over to Brac for a morning dive on the wreck and another dive, but we didn’t stop at the resort for lunch, we went back to LC. They don’t want to mix populations in case of an outbreak, but we did dive on CB at that time.

    Alam Batu Diving

We were there last year late February-early March. The first few days it was windy and rough. The boat diving wasn’t bad but shore diving and swimming out to the boat was sporty. Enough to cancel one afternoon dive. After that the wind changed and it was perfectly flat from then on.

Gear bag required/recommended for mask, fins and snorkel only?

Speedo and other swimwear companies offer inexpensive drawstring mesh bags with a shoulder strap or backpack straps, sized for snorkel gear rather than a full set of dive gear. They can be had at sporting goods stores, probably Walmart, definitely Amazon. They may not be necessary but can be...

Adding D-Rings to Oceanic Biolite BCD shoulder straps

I attached small shackles to those loops. Work like d-rings, I clip accessories to them.

Question Did Scuba prevent you having a midlife crisis?

My husband and I started diving in our mid-40s, so scuba was our midlife crisis!

The curious case of AI. Do you use a back up SPG while using AI?

I use AI and have a backup small spg attached to a hip d-ring (short hose), because low-tech is robust.

Please help me help my wife! Recommendations for hair care while diving

When my hair was long I used to use Sun Bum coconut Argan oil (just comb a little through the hair) then French braid it. I also wore a light do-rag. My hair is very fine and tangled easily but this protected it pretty well, and the oil doesn’t rinse out in the sea.

    Best octopus dish in Coz?

I can tell you what to avoid—octopus pizza at a dive bar on the east side of the island. Guy who ate it (despite warnings against) spent the rest of the trip worshipping the porcelain god and wishing for death. :vomit:

Active Divers over the age of 50

65, female, diving since 2004, 870 dives. Caribbean, Indo-Pacific, Cocos, Socorro, Galapagos, also Lake Michigan wrecks (though not so much lately—I’m finding the work-to-fun ratio for drysuit diving skews the wrong direction more and more) Raja Ampat later this year, rebooked from 2021. I plan...

    LCBR?

We were there in October, and it was great. Haven’t been before so I can’t compare. The diving was amazing, the food was great with lots of variety (they brought special meals for the vegan in our group when there was no vegan main on the buffet), rooms were clean and pleasant, activities at...

Who is LexisNexis and why is my car insurance going up so much?

LexisNexis is a database of legal information and news sources. What it has to do with the price of your car insurance isn’t clear to me, but I’m just a librarian, not an insurance underwriter.
