    Experience from night Divers

I took my 13 year-old son night diving and his being a bit of an adrenalin junky, that was all he wanted to do afterwards. We have literally done a few hundred night dives and seen some amazing things you would never see diving during the day. One night we came across a school (herd?) of...

Options in the South Pacific - Fiji, PNG, Tahiti Others

If you are in New Zealand why not stay there and dive the Poor Knights Island? It's rated one of the ten best dive spots in the world. See Question - Questions on Poor Knights for my previous post about diving the Poor Knights.

How old do you plan to dive til?

I can but back hurts a few hours later so now take the gear off in the water and Dive Tutukaka boat crew hauls it up for me. I dive with them frequently so they are happy to help me.

How old do you plan to dive til?

Same here, the back can't handle the weight of the tanks and weight belt. I can struggle up but then pay for it later in the day. Now I take my gear off in the water and the boat crew are happy to pull it up for me.

How old do you plan to dive til?

I'm 76 and also wondering how long I can keep diving. My last two dives were on 4 Feb this year. Did two wreck dives on the Waikato war ship on 32% nitrox. Max depth 30.3M (99 feet). Cold water with a one knot current at the surface. Dive partner was an insta buddy who we figured out later...

    Question Questions on Poor Knights

As others have said Dive Tutukaka is a great company to dive with. They ALWAYS have crew that will guide you if you do not feel comfortable diving with an unknown dive buddy. There is no extra charge for being guided. They will be happy to offer a refresher dive at a price but you may not...

    Starlink Internet

50 yards can probably be done with a WiFi repeater. There are some videos on YouTube showing repeaters being used on a farm to link two distant buildings.

Unpressurised Dry Suit for Shallow Surface Supplied Air Diving

I agree that a small pony bottle would solve the problem. Here is a video of my wife diving on a Hookah and wearing a small pony bottle on her back Also has the advantage of providing air in case the Hookah stops for some reason which has happened to me several times. :-)

What dive sites should I visit in Belize

You might consider Banco Chinchorro. Great place for wreck diving. If you do, say Hi to "Marianne", our beloved sailboat that I drove onto the reef at night and sank on my wife's birthday 45 years ago with her onboard (we're still together). I understand there are five dive operators...

Where did you solo dive today?

Did two solo dives today at the Poor Knights islands, New Zealand. Pretty happy that Dive Tutukaka still trusts me to do so at the age of 76 years.

Question How old are you and how long certified? Poll- please take part!

Turned 76 last October. 55 years of diving. Did my last two dives Sunday 9 December, 2023 with Dive Tutukaka at the Poor Kights islands, New Zealand. No idea of how many dives but think more than 3000. Taught my 46 year old son to dive when he was 13 years old. Then made the mistake of...

ISO diving charter for Bleached Reefs

I also read that the bleached coral at the Great Barrier reef was or has made a comeback. My GP went diving in Fiji recently and told me he was dissapointed with his dives because of all the bleached coral there. Don't know where in Fiji he went diving but could ask him if you really consider...

    Dive Flag Violations

I stopped using dive flags due to the reasons you mentioned ( entanglements, ignorant/inquisitive people driving up to the float). Perhaps you might be able to get away with popping up a DSMB on your way back to the beach or just before surfacing. Boaters are probably less likely to...

where to go be a dive bum for a year or so?

You might consider New Zealand. The people are friendly and they speak English. You get NZ$1.67 for each US$. The Poor Knights islands is rated one of the top ten dive spots in the world.

What is your motivation to solo dive?

We have a boat, the wife didn't dive so solo was the only way. Then the wife got certified and dove for about ten years. Her doctor won't allow her to dive anymore (she's 75 years old and can't handle the weight) so am diving solo again.

Etiquette if the shop doesn't fill the tank completely

Our local dive shop (Dive Now, Whangarei New Zealand) always checks the pressure when you come to pick up the tanks and "top them up" if not at rated pressure.

Question How old are you and how long certified? Poll- please take part!

I wonder at what age us divers finally give it up and why? I'm 75, been scuba diving 54 years and still enjoy it but noticed I'm not diving nearly as often. Do divers just slow down or is there some point where they just give it up? If so, I would really like to know the reasons.
