Will Oceanic Geo 4 replacement strap fit the Oceanic Geo 2?

The strap on my venerable Oceanic Geo 2 snapped after 8+ years of use and I want to get a replacement strap. Unfortunately Oceanic have discontinued parts for the Geo 2, does anyone knows whether the strap kit for the Geo 4 would fit as a replacement instead?

Moving to Vancouver from UK - equipment advice and clubs/regular diving

Hi All, I'm moving to Vancouver from the UK to start a job at the University of British Columbia in the next couple of months. I'm going to ship my diving gear over and I'm really hoping to be able to start regular diving once covid restrictions in BC allow (I imagine dive shops aren't...

    Barkley Sound in August

I spent 3 days diving with Rendezvous when I visited Vancouver island in August 2017. Peter and Kathy were wonderful hosts, the food was amazing, the rooms comfortable and clean and the scenery stunning! Diving was excellent - so much to see! At the time Peter hadn't seen a sixgill that year and...

Exeter man dead - Torquay, UK

Very sad to hear this - Babbacombe is my local shore dive. Conditions are very benign - it is often used by local clubs and dive shops for training and as an intro to UK diving. Max depth on a high tide would be about 12 m. The site is sheltered from the prevailing weather and has very little...

Running the boat over my head after back roll.

Sure having the engine off and the key out would eliminate risks of getting hit by a prop in gear but unless you are anchoring or tie-ing off to a mooring this is completely unfeasible for diving in most places. Here in the UK boats are active at all times when divers are in the water - usually...

    Shark attack, Egypt, Brothers islands

There is some scientific research done on this topic but mostly it focuses on changes in residency and movements of sharks. There is less research looking at specific changes in behaviour of individual sharks, see one paper below which did investigate this and noted an increase in aggression...

Plymouth harbour diver lost, found, airlifted, dead - UK

We were out diving from Plymouth yesterday when the mayday call went out. We assisted the surface search and were waiting for permission from the coastguard to join the underwater search team when they found him. As far as I am aware he got separated from his buddy and then failed to surface...

    BDE vs Deep South

Brothers and Daedalus are too far out for day boats (normally an overnight sail by liveaboard ~8 hours travel time from the nearest ports). Elphinstone is the only reef I am aware of that day boats operate too (I think they go from Marsa Alem/Port Ghalib) and also has a decent chance for...

    Where to find Basking Sharks?

This was on a trip out of Falmouth in Cornwall towards The Lizard. The season in Cornwall is generally late April- early June, in the Isle of Man it is late May to August and The Hebrides seem to get them June to September. No advice on specific towns or companies, but i think the Hebrides is...

    Where to find Basking Sharks?

Cornwall seems to be having a good season for basking sharks this year (after very few sightings in the past two years). Here is a video from a snorkelling trip a couple of weeks ago. This was the only shark co-operative enough to jump in with but we saw another 2.

Which area is DIN valve popular at?

Here in the UK I would say the majority of people who own their own regulators use DIN. Some clubs or dive centres have A-clamp regs, mainly for teaching. I also find that most cylinders are DIN, but pretty much everyone has inserts used to convert to A-clamp if necessary.

    Diving Vancouver Island?

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am going to be in the San Juan Islands for 5 weeks on a training course (unfortunately probably not going to have time to do much diving). From there I am planning on heading up to Vancouver Island, as I will be flying back to the UK from Seattle and also won't...

    Diving Vancouver Island?

Hi All, I am looking to spend 7-10 days on vancouver Island after a work trip to the San Juan islands in July/August. I was wondering if anybody could recommend dive shops on the island for a couple of days diving? I probably won't be bringing any kit (apart from possibly snorkeling gear) so...

    Thresher Shark?

I would say not - most sharks have a heterocercal tail meaning the spine extends into the upper lobe of the fin which is usually longer.
