    Beginner dives in Cebu

I did a week of diving in dumaguete but I don't know that I'd recommend it for beginners. Perfectly safe but it is muck diving so you need to have good buoyancy control to avoid kicking up the bottom. There are lots of beautiful reefs in the area though. Apo island which is right across from...

I can't decide which beginner level computer to get.

Fair enough! Haven't actually done it yet so I wouldn't know. :) Anyway I bought my Geo 2 back when there was a mixup on amazon and they were selling it for the price of the Geo 1 so I got it for Ike $200. Can't complain!!!

I can't decide which beginner level computer to get.

I have an oceanic Geo 2 and love it. I think it's everything I will ever need. The one feature I thought was totally superfluous when I bought it was the ability to do two-tank dives. I NEVER thought I would use that. I still haven't. But now I'm thinking about taking a few tech courses (going...

What do you do over the winter?

OK I didn't read EVERY post so apologies if somebody already mentioned this but check out the Bonne Terre mines. 69 water temp year round and only a 5.5 hr drive from Chicago so easy for a weekend. I haven't been but plan to go this winter. Love all you folks on the coast who dive in the...

Trip Report Pulau Pef - Little Raja Ampat Trip Report

Thanks. I'm thinking Raja4Divers is the way to go. I usually only have a problem without AC the first few nights in the tropics. This will be 4 months into the trip so hopefully I'll have adjusted. Great for this but is going to make coming back to the US in December... unpleasant. :)

Trip Report Pulau Pef - Little Raja Ampat Trip Report

So Dan since you've stayed at several resorts, which was your favorite? I'm doing a liveaboard trip (Ambai) to Banda and the forgotten islands and will probably try to tack on a week or so of land based diving at the end.

Help me plan my bucket list trip...

Central sorry I missed your post. The reason for Saipan is sentimental. My grandpa was stationed there during WWII. Guam is really not a destination. Just the place I know I'll ultimately fly home from. Haven't seen anything more on Marine Conservation Philippines and haven't decided if I'll go...

    Indonesia IDC

Hi, all. I have planning in the works for a big trip I mentioned in another thread, but I have a specific question as I narrow things down, and thought a more specific thread might be beneficial. I will be in Indonesia from mid-June to mid-August of next year, and am planning to do an IDC and IE...

Salt Caye in the Turks & Caicos

I was there a few years ago (2014 I think?). Not terribly recent but more recent than the reviews you describe. There are only about 60 people who live on the island as I recall unless things have changed drastically. There is basically one dive op: salt cay divers. I was very happy with them...

Help me plan my bucket list trip...

thanks! When I get close to actually planning the Africa portion of the trip I will PM you. And I have spent a great deal of time in Germany and a few days in Budapest. None of it diving related, but if you want my thoughts let me know! Budapest was one of my favorite unexpected gems....

Help me plan my bucket list trip...

OK more planning and daydreaming under the belt. Much of it I will play by ear but I've booked a few things that appear to fill up very far in advance. (Namely PNG land tour and Truk live aboard... the odyssey is already booked solid from August to just before christmas!) June or July to...

    Bucket list trip

Thanks for the response! It's interesting you mention that because I have now looked into the Samambaia and they have a trip that looks good as well. They've told me it's too early to confirm but it's very likely to. It's so hard booking liveaboards--sometimes they book up crazy far in advance...

Newbie issues. What is your dive problems stats?

Hope things go well for you when you go back. I'm assuming you're at Haigh quarry. FYI if the vis makes things to difficult it's much better in the spring before the algae blooms. (Of course it's colder!). And if you can dive in Chicago you can dive anywhere. Diving warm salt water is SO MUCH...

Help me plan my bucket list trip...

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Let the planning and daydreaming begin.... Definitely will plan a few hot ticket items but will probably have flexibility with the rest. I think I have more items on my "nice to see" list than I could see even in a year! :)

Newbie issues. What is your dive problems stats?

It seems like you have the right attitude by realizing you have to be aware of your own safety. You probably trusted your buddy overly knowing they were a "rescue diver." Nothing against your buddy, but if I had been with a new diver I would've made sure we were back within easy swimming...

To buy a regulator, or keep renting

yeah people vomit and snot all over regs. I'm fine with watching people with their boogers and loogies but don't want them in my mouth! :)

Newbie issues. What is your dive problems stats?

The one thing no one has mentioned is your comment that you'd thought you'd be fine when you saw you had 500 psi. Ordinarily you should have a goal to be back on the boat at 500 psi in case something does go wrong. In roughly 150+ dives I have gotten back on the boat with less than 500 psi three...

To buy a regulator, or keep renting

I would absolutely buy. They are relatively easy to carry with you and I would be very concerned about the quality of rentals, especially in certain areas of the Caribbean. Along with my computer my reg is the only thing I take in my carry on because I would feel ok renting everything else in...

Finding a physician who actually knows about diving.

Thanks all! I will call DAN and get a recommendation. I am a member so it shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately I'm not in California but if I were I'd send him to your son!
