    Phuket

No need to be concerned. This is exactly what happened with me in Phuket, I went diving there alone for the first time. I was quite lucky as it was just me and the divemaster (early season) for the first 4 dives, then another diver joined us for the remaining 2 dives. It's a great way to meet...

    Phuket

The best thing about Phuket is choice. You have so many different choices when it comes to resorts, accommodation, prices, dive companies, nightlife, restaurants etc etc.. I like the quieter side of Phuket (Rawai) although if I need a good night out it is easy to get to Patong in a taxi or rent...

    Where to 'practise' in Thailand?

@MikkelBC: It is becoming an obsession of mine to perfect this art. I go through a tank of air in world record time and need to control my breathing better. I will be finishing my AOW course in Pattaya and doing the peak performance buoyancy as an extra before heading down to Phuket. Now, the...

    Where to 'practise' in Thailand?

My only problem with Koh Tao is the time it takes to get there!! Even the quickest of routes it takes 8 hours from Bangkok and this might just put me off, this time. With Phuket, I can fly from Bkk in the morning and be on the golf course in the afternoon! Would daytrips to 'Phi Phi...

    Where to 'practise' in Thailand?

Thanks for the replies. The 2 dives before lunch sounds ideal as I will be holidaying with a non-diver this time. I will be in Phuket in December to explore some of the better dive sites so I think Koh Tao will be my choice for this month to get some cheap diving practice in. Any updates on...

    Where to 'practise' in Thailand?

Having just 8 dives under my belt, it is now time to practise and start enjoying some diving. I have 10 days holiday from work and will be in Thailand for the last week of October (end of season in Koh Tao?). Would I be correct in thinking Phuket/Andaman Sea would be more suited to experienced...

    Bira, Sulawesi

R.I.P Chris. I was in email contact with him and he seemed like a nice chap. Their website has some great offers on at the moment and I am considering travelling there soon. Air Asia have a 'free seats sale' on too so could be a good time to search. ;)

    Open Water Course in Pattaya

Yes, plenty of lakes and caverns here :) Finding a buddy could prove to be a bit more difficult though.

    Open Water Course in Pattaya

Well I did the Open Water and I would thoroughly recommend Real Divers. They do indeed have great experience and knowledge of the area and made the OW course both relaxing and enjoyable. In fact, I am going back again to do the Advanced Open Water this month. Cheers lord khram, I'm hooked.

    Open Water Course in Pattaya

Thanks lord khram, I am quite surprised there aren't any diving resorts in Pattaya. I'm not so surprised about the price of gear in Thailand and will bear in mind shopping online. Thanks for the tips. I really am in 2 minds whether to do the OW course next month in Pattaya or wait a few months...

    Open Water Course in Pattaya

Complete newbie to diving and this forum, please be gentle ;) I am planning to do my OW course next month. I am based in Laos and have a 4 day holiday coming up at end of July. I will do the OW theory bit online to save time and then head down to Pattaya for 4 days. I realise that Pattaya is...

    New diver in Laos

Hello All, After yet another divorce and a midlife crisis I decided I need a new hobby. I am going to try scuba diving as I have always wanted to try it. I will be doing the open water course soon and would welcome some tips for a newbie 41 year old male living in Laos/Thailand. Thanks for any...
