    West End Dive Shops

I feel as though I’m obligated to try each and every dive charter in Roatan!

Going to So. Florida, need advice

Good to know about Starfish. I like the charter, but really dislike dragging a flag so that would be a positive change for me.

Going to So. Florida, need advice

To add to what others have posted, you’ll see different things based on where you dive. Jupiter offers more large things to see, such as sharks and Goliath groupers, and tends to be deeper dives. I think the lemon sharks will be there in October so, a Jupiter dive is a must do. JDC is my go-to...

Dive Ops recommendation for Boynton Beach, FL

So you can plan for future trips, diving the east coast of Florida is is great from Jupiter down to Islemorada. All the dive charters I’ve used in the Palm Beach area have a DM in the water, but as said earlier, they are not there to be your dive buddy although they will take you to the best...

7 divers rescued off Jupiter Inlet

What were the conditions? I heard it was pretty windy.

    New diver

To be honest, no one is going to prevent you from diving the wrecks along Palm Beach area, you really just need to be aware of your own limits. My son at 13 was diving Jupiter reefs with an OW cert which generally took him to 75-80 ft. I believe the majority of the artificial reefs won't be any...

    New diver

Narcosis is a really nice charter operating out of Riviera Beach. As for the diving, you'll find dives are deeper in Jupiter, but you get to see bigger stuff like sharks and Goliath Groupers, farther south you'll find shallow reefs that can be quite pretty. Head down towards Delray and you'll...

    New diver

Ahh, lucky to live in warm water locale! I didn't much like diving Key West, although you'll probably have fun diving the Vandenburg. Islamorada and Largo aren't far away, the diving there is much better. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding other divers, and the Florida board is definitely a...

    Apparently hovering is physically impossible

I agree with CuzzA comments. I weight myself so that I am just slightly negative when I exhale at the surface with no air in my BC. Once I've descended several feet I'll generally invert and fin down to the reef rather than freefall. As I approach the reef, a couple minor bumps on the inflator...

Scuba Class for PADI in NJ? - Also some general questions

Hopefully your dive trip will include a DM in the water with you since none of you are experienced. One recommendation I will make is, unless you plan to mount the GoPro on your head, leave it home. A new diver is easily overloaded with the simple things (buoyancy control for instance), adding...

    ScubaBoard Invasion Central 2017 Roatan

I'm considering this invasion. How many slots are left, if any?

    Veteran Divers paired with Newbies

Gotcha. Most of the diving I've done in South Florida, the only one with a float is the DM. As long as the buddy team (new diver/experienced diver) stay in close proximity to the DM, the experienced diver and send the newbie up on the float and finish their dive. I guess the only problem I find...

    Veteran Divers paired with Newbies

Do you mean ascend on the float? Just curious on your meaning because you are drift diving, no?

Differences in diving - Florida vs. Caribbean

Who did you dive with? My last few trips down there I've had the good fortune to dive off a private boat but, I do like diving with JDC and Narcosis. Scuba Adventures has sold their business, but the new owner seems to be maintaining the same dive opportunities (baited shark dives for example).

    Almost Certified then What's next

Nearly all of my diving is in the Jupiter/West Palm area and there is plenty of good instructors there. My son did his cert dives and I did my rescue cert with Jupiter Dive Center and I thought they were excellent. I know another instructor who works out of the Pura Vida dive shop in Riviera...

Timing of OW class - end or beginning of dive season?

Btw, you don't need to go too tropical to have a great dive vacation over the winter. The Palm Beach area and the Keys have some great diving. I think late winter the lemon sharks pass through the area (Jupiter), they are always cool to see.

Timing of OW class - end or beginning of dive season?

Personally, I don't see a good reason to wait until next Spring to do your training. If you get your cert now you still have some opportunity to dive before it gets too cold, and I would wager that your dive shop will offer a skills refresher course (usually a single session in a pool) that you...

    Wrist Dive Computer or Console?

For me, this is an easy question to answer; I have both a console computer and a wrist computer and use both. Having a back-up computer can save a day of diving (so says THIS guy who had the battery compartment of his console computer flood on a dive due to a hairline crack).

    Dive time on a charter

The charters I dive with in Florida all set time limits by whether you are on air or nitrox. Usually with nitrox it is 45 minutes of bottom time, at the surface by 50 minutes.
