Shark takes leg, life - Sonora Mexico

Just dived today in San Carlos and dive shop crew also support this hypothesis. Perhaps it's just a negligence/accident cover up.

Shark takes leg, life - Sonora Mexico

Have you seen the photos? I'm not encouraging it, but the result seems way more drastic than a propeller wound (I assume).

Shark takes leg, life - Sonora Mexico

Both articles mention he was fishing or after mollusks. I found the police report that suggests he was compressor diving (not scuba). Here's my translation: "He jumped into the water and in less than a minute he surfaced, he (perhaps a fellow fisherman) saw the hose was cut. When he was pulled...

    Texan dead - Florida Keys

My condolences to his family and friends. That's an odd reaction. Was he not properly weighted and struggling to stay afloat? Maybe he had some health issue. In this other source it gives a little bit more detail. Texas man dies diving off Key Largo

    Diving Tahiti and need help...

I'll second Freewillow. My wife and I just came back from Fakarava, chose it over all others. Did 4 tanks in the South with the Tetamanu Village dive shop and then 10 in the North with Dive Spirit while staying at Havaiki Pearl Lodge. The south is amazing for the number of grey sharks, hundreds...

    Fakarava north

Thanks for your post! My wife and I are going for the first time to French Polynesia, and are choosing to spend all our 9 days in Fakarava. We're both AOW with just 31 dives, so even if they think is **** that's all we have, hahaha. We're planning to stay maybe 4 days in the South and 5 days...

Is there a hand signal for "wait a moment" or something similar

I would use this for "wait a little bit" pumping it But this is the main one, again, pumping it.

Metric versus Imperial System for Diving?

I'm Mexican and use metric for depth, temperature and weight, but I like my tanks on PSI. Maybe it's because of the closeness to the US, their equipment and training. If you go to zones like Cozumel or the Gulf of California, where they're more used to American divers, they use Imperial for...

GALAPAGOS: ANY ADVISE about : when? which company ? land hotel or liveaboard?

My wife and I went on April, but not on a liveaboard because of two reasons. The first is that even it's the only way to get to Wolf or Darwin, it is too expensive. And the second reason is that you miss out all the land species and getting to know the islands. Maybe when we are more experienced...

Do you dive with a beard?

I usually trim it before any dive, but if it is not a must I could stop doing it. What are some tips to prevent leakage? Keeping the mask tighter or looser? Vaseline? I use an Oceanic Mako 1 mask with a neoprene strap like the one in the pic below.

For those who like to use their camera pole this is for you!

I think it's a good idea. The important thing is giving the ability to reposition your torch or change it. Some have a very narrow light range or have a warmer light color. At the end, video and photography are all about lighting. Some like to follow standard rules and others like to play with...

    Failed PADI Rescue....now what?

Since the OW course you learn to check your own equipment and your buddy's, and to always check your air, depth and time. Don't make this a personal thing against your instructor or other people posting. Safety is first. Dive a lot, get comfortable, practice and prove yourself and then the...

July - Diving Solo - Cozumel, then Mujeres or Holbox - Looking for Op, Advice, Etc!

I would also recommend Blue Angel Resort in Cozumel. I've gone with them, it's a small hotel for divers, and service is great. Since it is a hotel full of divers, I don't think you'll have trouble finding a buddy. When I went, a friend that works there joined us so we could all have couples.

Snorkel a necessity on open water dives?

I normally don't bring it with me, but I'm new in diving. When I have gone drift diving they recommend not to bring it to avoid mask flooding or even losing it. The ironic thing here is that while drift diving, the probability to get stranded is bigger and that's when you might find your snorkel...

Open Water Referral - PDC or Cozumel?

I've done Puerto Morelos (30 km before Playa del Carmen) and Cozumel. Visibility in Cozumel is way better, but yes, you can have strong currents. Still, you can go to Cozumel's Paraiso Reef, which has great visibility and usually not strong currents. It's only 30-40ft deep and it's not a long...

Advice on Galapagos diving from land in October

My wife and I just came back from Galápagos and land based diving was great. Gordon Rocks is the place to go. We saw more than 40 hammerheads on each dive, mobulas, white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, etc. The current was strong but enjoyable. It was our 19th and 20th dive. There was a lady who...

    Panicked on first deep dive

Hi, SheilaATX! I'm glad everything turned out great. At the beginning I used to have some anxiety mainly over my mask flooding. To get used to it, I practiced and practiced every time I dove, flooding my mask, clearing it and getting comfortable with it. You can do the same removing the...
