I’m down here in CR now. The travel is pretty simple. You need travel insurance that covers Covid to the CR rules. Easy to find and not too expensive. I’m 59 years old and 45 days cost me around $120. 48 hours before your flight, you fill out an online form. (The link was forwarded to me by...
Rhone, I'm an expat that works all over the world. Usually, a few years at a time in one place then, off to a new project. When I took this project, I was looking forward to diving Haiti. After arriving I found it very difficult to get air and to set up diving here in the North. PaP and...
I've recently invested in a compressor and enough tanks and gear to dive here in North Haiti. A few weeks ago, myself and a dive buddy dove the entrance to Caracol bay. Good dive with decent visibility. The next day, we dove fort labouque. Awesome dive. A real nice wall dive with a beach entry...
The trip to Labadee went well overall. We made two dives. One was completely exploratory. One of the locals said he knew a "Great" Dive site. We called it the Mystery dive. It turned out to be "OK". We dropped into about 12 feet and swam around a bit eventually finding a drop off that looked...
I'm planning to dive Labadee this week end. It's about an hour from where I live in Haiti. I'll post what I find. There were some issues last month with the cruise lines. I am not sure if they have resumed stops in Labadee. Last month I dove MontiCristi and Bayahibe DR. Both good dive sites...
If you get something in a foreighn country you should go to a travel doctor to get it checked. I have lived overseas for 20 years. Malaria meds are in my bag on every trip. Buy them outside the US for a few $'s because in the USA it takes a week or two to get and they are over $100.00. Remember...
Marina Blue is a bit further for me... I'd guess 3 to 4 hour drive. After New years I might be talked into a weekend trip to check it out. The company is messing with my plans for the first of the year right now... They want me to teach a course in Tanzania.... I may be Diving Tanzania in Feb...
While I am not looking for the Santa Maria... I am Diving North Haiti and would like to have anyone coming this way give me a holler. I should be here another year or two. Regards all!

I don't know if this is too late but.... there are also Dive operations in Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic. I've not had the chance to dive them yet, but they are on my list for next year.

The problem I have found here in the North is the lack of Dive infrastructure. Few places to get air and rent gear. I have heard that they are resurrecting a dive shop near Cap Haitian close to where there are some charted dive sites but I have not been able to get up with them.
Enjoy...
Hmmmm Haiti Diving. As noted above, Diving here is a bit unorganized..... but This is Haiti and we have the opportunity to dive where few have gotten wet before.
I've done a little here in the North. Difficulties in getting gear and tanks filled caused me to buy my own compressor and a...
I concur with Coldwater. I've contacted two Dive operations in North DR. One in Puerto Plata and the other in Monti Christi (Right by the Haitian border.) I did not ask about lion fish or Spear fishing. On the dives I have made in North Haiti near the border I have not encountered any Lion fish...
Uncfnp thanks for the correction.... Forced is the right way to put it as well. Currently having problems getting air though... So it may be a moot point. The compressor operator is quite sick and it is unknown when or if he will return to the resort. Until then I'll look for a redundant air...
Indeed, Sear.... And thanks for the tip. Until I came here I never dreamed I would need to do solo diving. I suspect it will be awhile before I get to a place with an operational dive center and an instructor. It'll sort out though. Next trip stateside I'll pick up an alternate air source.. Cheers!
Thanks makrm... Living in odd out of the way places like I do has built in a few survival traits... I do try to think of possible issues and prepare for them. I'll look up some of the links and try to download some books to see what some of the key points are. Getting a cert will be at the next...
I still have to review this posting but I would like to chime in a bit. My history.... I have been diving since the early 80's and in the last 18 months I have been wet on about 75 dives all over the world. I have found myself in an odd situation where I am truly solo diving in uncharted waters...
I dove San Andres in the mid 90's. It was awesome. If you can sort it out get a flight to Provedencia. I would like to touch base with any folks diving around Golfito, Zancudo or Pavones CR. I've connections in that area I might try to spend some time there if there is diving. Cheers.
