thanks for your answer i used a flat ceramic tile as a cutting surface, a steel ruler straight edge, and a new razor blade lined up the edges of the latex seal squeezed the seal between the tile and straight edge ruler used the razor to get a nice straight cut and smooth edge no more degraded...
