The following video is from 3/16/24, from the North end of Bahia Honda State Park(several miles from Bogie channel/Big Pine Key which is an area where this fish behavior was observed, along with Bow channel by the Cudjoe Wastewater facility, where there was a spill during Hurricane Ian(from what...

    Spinning Fish

A quick Google search returned the following: """ "As of March 2024, locals and scientists have identified the bizarre actions in at least 44 species, including the critically endangered smalltooth sawfish. Many fish have been washing up dead, though there's not a formal count, according to the...

    Spinning Fish

I was in the lower Keys last Friday to Sunday. Snorkelled at Bahia park, north and south side, south of the old bridge and under the 7 mile bridge(w/ a flag). I did not see any fish that were struggling, spinning or being dead. I'm not sure what locations these fish are spinning/dying at but...

    Shallow seas of Florida

The camera setup is negative with that tripod/video lights etc, so it's pretty stable underwater, even in moderate current. I also use an OMS bcd with a 5mm steel backplate and 4 lbs of extra weight, so it keeps me planted when needed.

    Shallow seas of Florida

The macro lens I use is an Olympus 60mm with the GH5S, but also use a +7 Dyron diopter at times. And yes, I use a tripod, I have an Aquatica AGH5 housing and made a tripod out of ULCS strobe arms(attached to a tray on the housing). Some of the footage is with a Sony RX100V with a Nauticam CMC-1...

    Panasonic Lumix GH5s

Hello, I just got this camera (Panasonic/Lumix Gh5S) and noticed a small rattle/noise when shaken or moved. It concerns me because I've seen some posts on various websites, some people saying it's normal, while others saying the IBIS causes it (but the GH5S does not have IBIS (??)), so wanted...

    Understanding LBTS surf reports

If the wind is from the East/SouthEast, most of the time you're looking at 2-4 feet waves, especially in the Summer months. INMO when waves are from the NE, it's worse but lately it's been fairly flat, like yesterday. Best wind for flat seas is from the West or Southwest. With that being said, I...

    Tampa Bay Area shore dive?

Spanish Rocks on Holmes Beach was a pretty nice dive site until the cty or city finished the beach renourishment project in 2014. Since then it's been silty, murky/cloudy waters with 5-10 foot vis. Lots of sand sitting on the reef. Before you could have 25+ feet visibilty in colder days. Have...

Where should I live in Florida

INMO, best place would be between Stuart and Jupiter. Stuart is not too expensive and close enough to Jupiter for pelagics etc..also close to Blue Heron Bridge and Pompano Beach/LBTS for shore diving. And still about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs drive to the Keys. On the West coast of FL, maybe along the shore...

Jupiter diving - the pool is open

Divers spaced out (6 feet+ apart), most were wearing masks/facial coverings, inlcuding the crew). Max 8 divers on the boat + 3 crew (including the captain). They load all gear/dive bags so, you don't have to carry anything. Overall it seemed very safe (given the circumstances). Price was...

shallow dives in SE Florida or Keys

Crisis averted? Most of the Elkhorn/Staghorn corals in the Keys have perished. Now, a new disease is moving South killing LPS and brain coral(it was first discovered off Fisher Isl/Dade cty) where an outflow pipe broke 2 years ago. It was not repaired for a year. The Mysterious Disease Killing...

Miami-Dade's leaky pipes: More than 47 million gallons of waste spilled in past two years Human pathogen killing corals in the Florida Keys ""When we identified Serratia marcescens as the cause of white pox, we could only speculate that human waste was the source of the pathogen because the...
