Old-diver ears, been putting off getting a hearing aid?

I will endorse the above MD AIDS. You will need 2 one for each ear. Only problem I have is they "eat" batteries. Buy a bunch od #13's.

    NAUI Class

I second the idea of going on the NAUI website. Shops are OK but you may like the concept of an independent instructor. What ever you do, check them out and see if you like their approach, is it a fit for you.

    PADI or SDI Dive Master

If you are primarily going to use your DM in Washington DC, then I would say just pick one. It would be a different story if you were trying to eek out a living (abet a very small one) in the Caribbean. There I would say PADI is dominant and their DM credential would help in getting a job...

    too much??

Elena, well golly jeez, thank you for such kind words! f86sabjf, when you are ready you can find my number on my site Dive-Florida.com I am always willing to talk scuba, and if I'm not the best instructor for you we'll find the right one.

    too much??

f86sabjf , yes you do have to be certified as a diver to get on boats, air fills, buy equipment (theoretically - sometimes I wonder). I think you might be referring to my statement about an instructor not working for a dive shop. Some instructors choose not to do so for various reasons. I...

    too much??

You live in the dive capital of the world, why not get certified here? People fly in from all over to get to dive some of the real gems we have here. We have the Springs (year round 72 degree water temp), the Atlantic, the Gulf. We have caves and caverns, the Keys, shipwrecks, reefs, etc...

So how can I inch closer?

I second the idea about diving a lot. In your area I would look into finding a Dive Club or try using the SB forum Florida Conch Divers. Now, let's look at what you mean by wanting to do more advanced "stuff". To some it may be going to 100 feet, to others maybe continuing up the training...

Cover for Rubber to Metal Connection on Reg Hoses

I agree with J. I believe they are called hose protectors but, when I get a reg with them on I advise cutting them off. They are supposed to relieve the strain between the rubber and metal on the hose. They MAY do that, but they create a bigger problem in that they keep whatever water you...

Lets tell the less experienced what our OWC was like..... ( if you remember)

I loved the pool work. Driving up to the quarry (Dutch Springs) I told my three dive buddies that I thought I would go on to at least rescue diver, I liked diving sooo much! Set the stage: Dutch Springs in November (PA mountains for those un-initiated) 48 degree water, snow on the ground, 7mm...

    Spear fisherman bitten in Florida

According to the local news they were free-diving and spear fishing, and shot a lot of fish. His friends had the ware with all to put the torn patch of skin and muscle back in place and apply a tourniquet and pressure to the wound. Upon getting him to the beach a medical helicopter transported...

Wetsuit or BC Hanger on the Cheap

I like it! I made mine out of 1" PVC pipe and some pant can hangers from the box stores. Didn't like them as much as your design, BC's had a tendency of slipping (even though I put 90 degree connectors on the ends). I'll try making a few.

    Instructor moving to Siesta Key

Thanks Elena, I keep inching myself closer. I'm planning on doing some trips to the Keys, and I have the instructor that I'm training for a crossover down there. You'll prob say "when is he leaving"!!!!!!

    Instructor moving to Siesta Key

Thank you Drbill. Ive been there a few times and it is indeed all you said it was. The problem with diving there is the vis. As I understand it, most of time the wind blows in from the west clouding the water. But, it still is paradise and I'm sure I'll find some students and I'll find a...

    Instructor moving to Siesta Key

I am an instructor quite happy with my business in the Orlando area but my SO has decided to move out to the Gulf area. We are prob ready to call Siesta Key our home. I know this is not the "dive capital" of the world, but it will do - plenty of tourists, money, time on their hands, etc. I...

    Dive Site Directory?

Regional Travel and Dive Clubs on SB. This is broken down to many sites US, Canada, etc. See if any dive sites are listed that you might want to go to. If not - post. See what the response is. You will usually get 5 or 6 reply's to your post telling you what dive sites are good, what dive...

    3 person Buddy team

Ditto to all above. With three person teams you need very clear topside communication. I'e had two instances where, well lets say, it didn't work too well. Since you and your sons have a few dives under your belt (especially in the North Atlantic) you seem to have most of the "kinks" worked...

    Alive and well

Just wanted to post that the Lake Mary Dive Club is alive and well. We don't get a lot of posts on SB but we get a lot of posts and members on our own site - LakeMarySCUBAClub.com. We now have over 350 members and keep growing. Our meetings are usually the 1st Monday of each month, unless a...

    Equipment Package Deal

Oceanic is good I dive it sometimes. I now prefer Zeagle - like everything in diving (as well as everything else in life) we all have our personal preferences. Why do they make Chevy's and Fords? Anyway, there are two questions: What type of diving will you be doing? (this will dictate...
