Atomic M1 or Z3, or Apeks XTX200 or XTX50? Help!

Thanks to all for your input! I went with the Apeks XTX50. The Atomics looked nice, and I'm sure they are, but since I have plans for some cold water wreck diving, I wanted something made for cold water from the start (sealed diaphragm). I also couldn't find enough differences between 1st...

Atomic M1 or Z3, or Apeks XTX200 or XTX50? Help!

I’m debating which regulator to buy, and have it narrowed down. I'm leaning toward the Apeks XTX200. However, my eyes are bleeding from doing a ton of research, and I'd like some other opinions. My considerations are: - Cold water compatibility. I've got Scapa Flow and Lofoten Islands on the...

Recommendations for Bahamas island & dive shop?

I'm flying into Nassau for a quick scuba jaunt in November, and looking for a recommendation for a good dive shop with a small DM / diver ratio if possible. Sounds like Stuart's Cove & Bahamas are bigger ops with a lot more people. I'd ideally like to get off of Nassau, but with only a few days...

Repairing dive computer? Tusa Zen computer appears to be dead.

Thanks for the advice. How do you do a reset? The user manual I found online doesn't have any info on how to do this.

Repairing dive computer? Tusa Zen computer appears to be dead.

I bought a Tusa Zen dive computer 2nd hand from a dive shop when I was in Mexico. Worked for quite a few dives, then conked out. It's not the battery -- I already tried replacing it. No signs of water damage inside, o-ring was checked and fine. Could be software, perhaps. It's most definitely...

    Cozumel

Seconding cenote dives and Chicken Pizza.. er, Chichen Itza. Angelita Cenote is one of the best dives of my life, though it is pretty deep (30+, meters that is). In Cozumel, try to spent at least 3-4 days diving. The op will switch up the dive sites, so you'll want the maximum number of dives to...

    What got you into diving?

Arthur C. Clarke. He wrote a trilogy about his experiences diving the Great Barrier Reef and Ceylon aka Sri Lanka. I was traveling Australia while reading Reefs of Taprobane (where he dove wrecks and found ancient ruins in Sri Lanka), and it inspired me to learn to dive when I hit Cairns. It...

4,000 mile rescue - Chuuk Atoll

Wow.. I've dived in Chuuk, can't imagine how awful it must feel to have to leave the island to get treatment! Any more details about the cause, and his current condition?

Heartburn near the end of dives

Maybe certain foods are a trigger for heartburn, but you're only feeling it underwater for some reason. Personally, most fruit juices are too acidic for me, as well as tomatoes. I'd recommend, as was mentioned before, changing up what you eat for breakfast.

    I need advice on...breathing.

I have around 60 dives under my belt, and my SAC greatly improved in the last 20-30 dives. For me it was all about comfort level, trim and buoyancy. The stress of not having perfect buoyancy makes me breathe heavier. Another small factor is the reg I'm using. Ever since I breathed from my first...

Diving in Denmark / Southern Norway

So, Gulen doesn't have any availability for the dates I'll be there :( Not even close! I'm going to try to find a place either in Stavanger, or Oslo! Imla, is there good diving near Oslo? Did you do the Frankwald with Gulen or is there another way to get there? I'm thinking of taking a drysuit...

    What have you seen?

Japanese wrecks from WWII in Chuuk… diving into cargo ships with completely intact planes, tanks and trucks was just mind-blowing! Also, whale sharks and a GIANT SCHOOL of Hammerheads.

Backpacking with a wetsuit or rent low quality

I'm backpacking RTW and carrying a prescription mask and dive computer. I've found renting a dive computer in South and Central America very difficult, so consider adding one as well if you don't have one already. Honestly, I'd be more worried about that than the wetsuit. I'm traveling with a...

Diving in Denmark / Southern Norway

Thanks again! I'm going to try to learn diving dry. I'm going to see if I can pay for a bit of training beforehand, since I don't want to be struggling with it while diving a good wreck! I'll email Gulen, but it looks like they don't have availability for the ideal dates.

Diving in Denmark / Southern Norway

Thanks for the response! I'm headed to Aarhus tomorrow, then to Germany and then Norway, where I plan to dive Bergen and/or Stavanger. If you have some particular favorite sites for wrecks, please let me know. I saw a couple on Gulen's site that look good, e.g. DS Frankenvald, .SS Fernedale &...

Location of Weights on Weight Belt

I keep mine on each side but slightly front to stay horizontal. I also adjust the weight belt to be higher than the BCD's velco strap because unfortunately I'm short and always wind up almost vertical if I don't.
