Okey dokey, I've got a plan. Mods feel free to delete as this limited time offer is now expired. Happy diving!

Anyone in town interested in a lion fish hunt north of the park Thursday or Friday afternoon?

I should add that I am planning to rent a car tomorrow so I can also shuttle you within a reasonable distance. We're at an AI down South.

Anyone in town interested in a lion fish hunt north of the park Thursday or Friday afternoon?

We had the needed 4, but now we're down to 2 and needing 2 more. The shop will supply the Hawaiian sling spears. Leave around 3pm from the pier, $55 for a steel 100 or 120, $10 more for Nitrox. Could also turn it into a 2 tank afternoon for $96 plus Nitrox. Any takers? Shoot me a PM to...

Guided scooter – as in diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) - in Kona?

I understand the value of a guide, I even hired one in Bonaire for a shore dive because he knew the location of 3 separate sea horses- worth every penny. I saw mention of shore-diving, but that turns out it was in someone else's post. I'll stay tuned to see if the dates work out.

Guided scooter – as in diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) - in Kona?

Diver 858, we haven't book our dates yet but that's the timeframe we're looking at being in Kona and I'd be interested in giving DPV a try. That said, I've never used one. Is it the case that once you've got the cert (presumably from them which would serve as their check-out of your skills)...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

I found this... New hose installation, how tight, where to get a torque wrench? Looks like somewhere between 45 to 80 inch lbs.

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

If take you look at my console (see attached photo in previous reply), you will find that you can't actually touch or see the fastener inside, making what you are saying not feasible. I was actually imagining it required a special tool kind of like an automotive O2 sensor socket that fit's over...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

What is that torque spec anyway? I don't know the metric "huge amount" is that like gutentight? The point was it wasn't tight enough to survive a third dive, but a tug didn't suss that out. The real check here turns out to require popping the SPG out of the console to confirm the fastener...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

Point well taken. I do appreciate the pointers but was missing where the contradiction was. I don't feel hypocritical to hold a factory trained tech to a higher standard of inspection then myself or anyone else with my level of training. On the other hand it is indeed life support and if I...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

I was contradicting *you* in saying that a pressure test, visual and a tug wasn't enough in this case, but don't see how that contradicted myself. I agree, I didn't know how to properly inspect it and already said so. How is not torquing the spg fastener _not_ the technicians fault? I think...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

    >>The customer/user must check their equipment, serviced or not, before going on a dive trip by at least hooking up his "life support" equipment to a tanks testing, pulling, tugging everything including making a visual inspection of all parts, especially hoses, to make sure that all appear to be...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

Not sure if I'll divulge the shop name or not- I think it depends on how they handle it when I go back. The more important takeaways are probably that it could happen anywhere and even without carelessness that equipment can fail. Testing your equipment to this level isn't a skill recall being...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

Thanks for all of the input. >>Once you pick up your equipment, put it on a tank at the shop The shop actually did ask me if I wanted to hook it up to a tank, but I was in a hurry and declined- lesson learned. This was the first trip that I wasn’t able to rent a checkout tank, but noticing...

Shoddy gear service- what would you do?

I had my equipment serviced before my recent dive trip and was very disappointed with the outcome. It was a regular service interval and the factory authorized shop that worked on it said my diaphragm in my primary second had a hole, so he replaced it for a modest additional parts fee. The...

Looking for Aldora Alternative - 2/25/17 Trip

I think my next trip down I think I want to come with a group of divers sufficient to marshall a whole boat. Showing up as a single diver without an advanced reservation taught me what I would miss from Aldora. I also found a more than accommodating op for the second half of the 10 days so now...

Looking for Aldora Alternative - 2/25/17 Trip

Jorje mentioned that they were already renting another boat right now so I think that is correct. It could currently be a case of high season having everyone maxed out- plus I'm just a single on short notice. I am surprised there hasn't been at least a night or twilight or shark cave slot...

Looking for Aldora Alternative - 2/25/17 Trip

Aldora rocks, and it's cool of Dave to work in reservations when possible but apparently full is full. I am in Coz for 10 days on a bit short notice 10 day trip with family (unfortunately during spring break season), and I went in to the shop to get signed in/find out what is available and they...

    WiFi Secrets Aura

We were there 2 weeks ago and it was complementary, but highly intermittent. They claim to have just switched service providers, and "still working on it" which may be why it's still free and flakey in the non-preferred side. We found the room phone to be spotty too even just trying to call...
