    Oxygen analyzer

It sounds like the dive ops will at least have an analyzer on boat, or should. Looks like I will be getting my own analyzer, none the less for piece of mind. If there is one thing in diving that can cause a catastrophic event that we might all take for granted is having our tanks filled...

    Oxygen analyzer

I know that by the book everyone should analyze their tanks and fill out the forms and label their tank prior to diving. Recently got certified after doing an online class and then completed the remaining portion at a dive shop on vacation. Now, from experience, I have been on resort diving...

    diving with broken rib

Just as an update... returned from my trip and the most discomfort was from a couple jelly fish and some fire coral on St. George. Any discomfort felt on the rib was equal to, if not less than, being on the surface. It actually felt good being underwater. Sleeping was the most discomfort, but...

    diving with broken rib

Just spoke with DAN medical. Just a follow up in information from previous posts... it's the 6th rib on left side. It's a non displaced fracture and besides the expected soft tissue inflammation. And with my profession, that is my support of knowing that this isn't an issue of increased pressure...

    diving with broken rib

I'm expecting pain. Especially, with the shifting of BCD and tank repositioning. Gotta love Dominican and their relaxed pharmaceutical corners... jk!jk! that's a different ball of wax not requiring a response!! But a good point has been brought up regarding me being an effective dive buddy...

    diving with broken rib

I guess you can look at anything as causing a contraindication. People prone to spontaneous pneuomos are a contraindication (tall, skinny, etc...). COPD patients are a contraindication. Bullous emphysema is a contraindication. Broken rib is a contraindication. Heart disease. CHF. And i know...

    diving with broken rib

this was my thought exactly with the pressure gradient exerted against the atm pressure. Otherwise our chest would incave at 300 ft, broken or not. It's not a flail chest, just a simple break. Not displaced. Other than discomfort and pain, as you would get with any rib, being positional and...

    diving with broken rib

This will probably get moved to the medical section but lots of eyes come here... I'm heading to Bayahibe next week and I broke a rib last Saturday. Curious as to what to expect as far as pain and discomfort. I've broken ribs before so besides the current discomfort associated with the rib I was...

Thanks for reply. I'm working with Johnny now in putting together a package. Seems highly recommended and I'll be sure to give a report when I return. I'll tell him "Bob" from Toronto says HI

    Bayahibe dive op recommendations?

Staying at Dreams La Romana October 31st to November 5th. Been checking out dive ops and trying to figure out what would be in our best interest. I'm advanced cert w/ Nitrox. Other diver is basic open with nitrox but much more experience then myself ( +200 dives). I have read so far that...

    LivingTheDream dive op?

Living the dream came highly recommended from a friend and hopefully planning to head to GC in October but I haven't heard their name brought up when people recommend dive ops. Anything to know? Is it a location thing? -Dave

    "That" diver

I think what the overall conclusion is that you can't truly rely on a DM to police poor technique and reef destruction. If they are alive and enjoying themselves then they have completed their task. They see it all day. Instead of trying to function as a "hey, teacher! Jimmy just pushed me!"...

    Your biggest "lessons learned"

Drinking and poor sleep get's you narced quickly! That's my "new to diving" lesson. I enjoy my all inclusive resorts with divers and non divers and in Coz we tied on a good one. Woke up early to catch our boat. Slow played the rush because they were 30 minutes late every other morning (island...

    Slower breathing rate underwater?

Math time to play off of shallow breathing at an average rate compared to deep breathing at a slow rate: Average dead space ventilation (air movement that isn't part of gas exchange) with our anatomy is 150ml (average for sake of argument) Add on 30ml for the second stage ( guestimate, not...

Newer diver hoping to put some gear on the Christmas list

Computer. I have the Suunto Zoop and its very easy to use and customize. Much easier to use then some of my buddy's who have other entry level comps and for the price I feel it's the best bang for the buck and can adjust how liberal or conservative (preferably) it is. Only takes one easy use...
