Used or New? What do You Trust?

Bought my reg and bc at a very reasonable price, and it allowed me to start diving without the hassle of renting soon after I got certified. So, all good there. Now though, I'm thinking about replacing these (especially the reg) with new gear since I'm having trouble trusting my gear the...

Do you like to find things underwater?

Managed to drop a catch bag full of my mates' gear when surfacing recently. My only excuse is that it was hailing at the time which was distracting. On another dive ages ago I also dropped my prescription mask over the side. Back to the topic of finding treasures though, where does everyone...

Should I wear life preserver on dive boat?

... either a wetsuit or lifejacket. Can't remember the last time I wore the latter, probably because it's assumed on dive charters that you'd be in a wettie.

    Denver and Colorado diving

Hi All, Been based in Denver for a few months now and have developed a craving for some diving goodness. Does anyone know of any good water holes or dive charters in the area? Muchly appreciated. Merkiwi

    Buying diving gear in Singapore

Hey Neve, I always enquire about (purchasing) an Intl. warranty if I buy anything overseas. Apparently any Suunto dealer in NZL would fix any defects but thankfully I haven't had to test this yet. :-)

    Buying diving gear in Singapore

Hey Wima. Lucky is where I bought my Stinger from. I was taken there by some local friends who'd also bought their gear there. The Stinger was priced at NZ$850, which was about $400 cheaper than what I would've paid had I bought it in NZ. Comparing the prices of their other gear (off the top...

I wouldn't want to be in this guy's shoes...

Check out this page: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/10/03/1033538722341.html I dunno if this is old news for everyone, but I had a bit of a chuckle when I first read it. Does everyone agree that their country's best joke is at all funny?

    IT and Diving?

Software developer for 1 and a half years, but did undergrad in marine bio as well as com. sci, so a lot of the divers I know are actually in some field of biology. I'm currently trying to reach the level of technical wizardry some of you old school bearded IT professionals exibit. I agree...

Tip cup in a SHOE STORE!?!?????

I haven't done the Rainbow Warrior yet, hoping to get out there this summer. If you're down this way again, definitely check out the Poor Knights and White Is. The view is amazing.

    Crab cooking

Great idea... I'll have to try it next time I get my grubby hands on some. In the meantime, I'm off to the local fish 'n chip shop for a couple of lovely processed deep-fried crabsticks. Hopefully that'll sate my craving. Mmm...

    7mm Semi Dry Repair

Would a decent dollop of aquaseal work? It'd at least give you some time before having to have the neck re-sealed. I used that stuff to patch a hole in the bladder of my bc and it's working as new.

    Crab cooking

Ooo... I think I detect a hint of a challenge there. A year ago I'd've suggested a chilli chowdown but I've actually gotten pretty soft lately. Too much bland food coz of the flatmates. Stink. So you're off the hook. :)

Tip cup in a SHOE STORE!?!?????

:D Hey, I don't believe it! I used to live in Manurewa... Never been to Copper Joe's but. Small world. How'd you find NZ? Yeah, you're right... can't draw conclusions... but it's interesting nonetheless. What it does mean is that if I wanna dive the US, I won't be eating any steak. Heh...

    Crab cooking

... absolute goodness. I usually chill them till they're slow, then stick a knife through the centre of the carapace. Remove the gunk, quarter them, then stir fry in a big wok with a lot of garlic and fresh chilli. They don't need much else. ... d'oh, dribbling on the keyboard again.

    Suunto Interface Users question

Ah... I see. That makes a strange sort of sense, Nickjb. I think I'll go out and get the bits for the interface now then, get my mate to put it together. How'd you go about making it link to a PDA? That's a brilliant idea. Did you write the software for your PDA?

    Suunto Interface Users question

I had a look at that site sometime ago... has anyone made up that interface yet? I'm keen to coz they want ~$400 for that $5 interface at my LDS. Helluva markup. I have a stinger and the Roli's plan's describe a 3 pronged interface and as far as I can tell the stinger only has one contact...
