First trip to Curacao in September

Ocean Encounters! They have a ton of boats and late afternoon dive trips to nearby reef and shallow wrecks (30-60ft). OE operation is down close to the cruise ships port next to Mambo Beach area and Lions Dive hotel. Good dive shop with a the trinkets you would want to remember the island of...

In Curacao now until mid March looking for buddy

Try Cas Abou, Porto Marie beaches. They have dive shops and always people diving morning and afternoon. Safe parking close to the dive shops. Most divers will welcome a solo diver into the group. Make it up to Playa Lagun and use Bahia Divers they are the best in the West. Great full service...

Price check on faber steel 120s

You'll be able to drop some weight from your belt or bc pockets to compensate for the negative buoyancy of the steel tanks. Some would argue that negativity is really a positive in this case.

Curacao trip on a budget - tips wanted.

We stay in Westpundt and dive frequently during our respite, this primarily as our reason for going to Curacao. Have been 10yrs going there for two weeks. It's our big yearly vacation. West end of island has very pretty shore diving With many different but similar shore dive sites. The most...

    Drysuit - Scubapro vs. Seaskin

IMHO... I bought a dry suit thinking I had to have one because I thought I knew I would dive with it frequently during the winter months when the water turned cold. So I spent $2500 and got an Otter Britannic, nice suit. Very heavy even before you add the weights and the steel tank. I have...

    Drinking water precautions?

Montezuma's Revenge remedy that works for me usually in 24hrs; Angostura aromatic bitters. A few drops in water from a BOTTLE a couple of times right after you know something is brewing down below. I sometimes will take a precautionary swig of it if I'm traveling to places I suspect might be a...

    New divers and buying equipment

Fell in Love with the first good looking dry suit I saw so I bought my first dry suit immediately after a trade show. The suit is an Otter Britannic. Looked great hanging on the display hook. Had all the bells and whistles; Kubi dry glove system, sitech neck system, p-valve and front entry with...

    Discuss "The Dive Bus"

So true, if your staying in the Westpundt area you won't need the dive bus to fill a weeks worth of diving. Go West Dive operation has a great house reef and All West Apartments affiliated with Go West has also a superb house reef. They are actually one continuous stretch of sloping...

    Suggestions Needed!

Curacao has a lot to offer for shore diving. Western end of the island is my favorite. A dozen shore diving sites in and around Westpundt close parking most have a watch man sitting under tree keeping the sneaky opportunists away. Try Cas Abou, Porto Marie, Playa Kalki, Pescadera, Playa...

    Restaurant suggestions?

I would say Landuis Daniel and Trio Penoti are worth the Drive from Coral Estates for lunch or dinner. Reservations are a good idea but no absolutely needed. No one is turned away but your table might be in a less desirable location. On Sundays a good lunch can be had at a food shack at Playa...

Trip Report Trip Report Dec 2017

ERRN, thanks for the trip report. How can we contact the lodging you and your S.O enjoyed. My SO and I are familiar with Lagun and Discover Lagun restaurant and dive facility. But it sounds as though you stayed somewhere other than Bahia next door. We need a new place to stay. Sounds like you...

    leaky Santi drysuits?

Thanks for the tips. I'll try the half turn to engage the spring. Wanted to do the half turn last dive but got over whelmed by the surge and had to decend. Next time for sure!!

    leaky Santi drysuits?

I have a left shoulder leak I believe through the Apeks dump valve. Everything is tight as far as I can determine. I'm thinking the negative dry-suit pressure on decent is drawing some water through in the valve. Quite annoying!!!

    Drysuit Demo Days

Try one on and get in the water! That is good advice. I bought custom suit from the UK with measurements my friend and I calculated and emailed to the manufacturer. Otter Britannic MK2. After that frustration I would advise to try suits off the rack and get wet with it pick one that fits...

    curacao trip

I should have checked my log books for the correct decade. Anyway things really changed after Hurricane Lenny. Haven't returned since, really do adore Curacao but have awesome memories of Bonaire too. Capt. Dons, Plaza and Divi were super places lots of great shore diving and driving around the...

    curacao trip

I loved Bonaire diving before hurricane Lenny flattened the shallow areas, sea fans, stag and elk horn corals wiped out. That was in the Mid 1980's. At that time I was going every year. But after the storm I was so disappointed and almost depressed about what Lenny left behind we tried Curacao...

    curacao trip

Love Marazul but we stay at the Lodge Kura Hulanda timeshare located in Westpunt Curacao. Can't beat the Lodge's house reef Alice in Wonderland also known as "Playa Kalki" and the dive operator next door, "Go West Diving" owned by the All West Apartments facility just down the road. If only...

    Superior Producer open?

Email Ocean Encounters in Curacao they will know if it's available. I was in Curacao in July 2017 and told Superior Producer site temporarily restricted because of pier construction. Try and shore dive in the Westpunt area it is about as good as it gets in Curacao.

Best Marine Life destination, reasonably priced

We have vacationed on Curacao and dive for the last several years. There are dozens of beaches many with full facilities, food, bathrooms and rental equipment at their dive shops. Beaches are cleaned and raked by the government after storms. Divers and sun fanatics benefit the most on a visit...
