Question Only Instructor wears dive computer (extra charge if I want one)

Our 1st trip post training I was still learning how to use my DC and understand everything it was trying to tell me, so after each day I was "mapping" the dives against tables to help me understand. By day 3 I was well into decompression dives according to the tables, lol. $50/day seems...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

The optimism is driven by the reality that nature is extraordinarily resilient. Don't even have to spend much time looking at all the "sky is falling" events and how quickly they disappeared from the news to recognize that truth (the GBR is gonna die, for instance). The fact we didn't know about...

Trip Report Bonaire March 2024–Dead reefs

I'm headed there in about 3 weeks and will be there for almost a month. If the reefs were all dying as the OP suggests, my brother, who lives & dives there, would have said something or sent pics. I'm looking forward to playing in the water again; it's been too long.

    Bonaire Dive Shop Rec's

Crime on Bonaire is actually not that common. Minor theft out of unattended vehicles is the most common, and still not "common". There was a brief rash of ABnBs getting broken into, but again, not common nor widespread. That being said, for someone who had a breakin, it is your reality. Just...

    Bonaire Dive Shop Rec's

Dive Friends Oops, just saw you were wanting a valet type service. Not Dive Friends. VIP is probably the only one that might provide pickup/dropoff to an Airbnb. If schlepping tanks in and out of the truck is the concern, the folks at Buddy Dive or Dive Friends will usually assist if asked.

    Moving to Bonaire?

I have seen that article before, but is has been awhile. The findings as I recall, are still being debated. So, the process and argument is moving at the pace of Dutch government. At the current pace, I suspect the donkeys are (relatively) safe for the next couple decades.

    Moving to Bonaire?

The donkeys are not an endangered species by any stretch. Nor are they indigenous to Bonaire. Nothing zoologically unique. They were marooned on the island a couple hundred years ago and have thrived just fine on brackish water and cactus. They are the descendants of those brought to Bonaire to...

Thank you United Airlines ... NOT!

So you broke down and went diving in warm water? Disregarding the joys of flying these days, how was the diving? Bit more to see (and see farther) than what you're used to I'd wager. Just lacking (a lot) if one is into wreck diving.

    Moving to Bonaire?

Love the climate myself. Lived in Yuma, AZ for 5 years, still like the desert. But your point about looking at those little things is spot-on. My brother's "Amazon" buy is usually once a year, as he buys the various stuff he needs and has it shipped to me or our oldest brother for him to pick up...

Thank you United Airlines ... NOT!

United has been booking and then cancelling an exceptionally high percentage of international flights. It's a real PITA when a domestic flight gets changed or cancelled; even worse when dealing with flights overseas. They are now on my "do not fly" list unless they are the ONLY option. And then...

    Moving to Bonaire?

My brother, who has lived on Bonaire for almost 10 years now, makes this suggestion to anyone thinking about becoming an expat resident; take a long vacation first, as in, 6-12 months, before jumping into the purchase of a permanent home. Living on any island for an extended time can often cause...

    Diving in Rain

If you get to dive in the rain, it will be a little cooler (read 1*-3*) when you get out, until the sun comes back out. Rest assured, it will not last long, nor will it muck up the visibility enough to cause one to not want to dive. If Bonaire ever had 10+ days of bad weather in a row, it would...

Does everyone really need an SPG? (w/transmitter)

GF and I have identical Suunto D4i setups. There have been 2 instances that I managed to pair both computers to her transmitter. The SPG w/ depth gauge enabled me to continue the dives. On another trip, her battery died in her computer. Again, the SPG w/ depth gauge allowed her to finish the...

Do I want a Spare Air

This is a better response than what most were putting out there, certainly more useful as we are in the basic arena. It took me a several trips to figure out how to prune the extra weight out of the suitcases to accommodate a larger pony. Actually, it took convincing the GF she didn't need...

Do I want a Spare Air

No need to apologize, no offense here. I was quoting you in regards to the question of whether the SA could be dropped. As I have not seen one that didn't come with the coiled lanyard, it seemed appropriate to point out they are designed to be tethered to the diver. The other quoted was in...
