    Jasper Reels by Ralph Hood

These are fantastic reels, and double as hand-to-hand weapons

    Puerto Morelos Recommendations

Would like to hit a 2 tank morning dive. Cenotes are great, but wife wants to see pretty fishes while we're there. We've been to Coz and not interested in the trip over. Anyone dealt with an operator in PM? Thanks!

Ditchable weight options for backplate and wing

That is similar to what I’m using albeit with dive rite pouches. What are you using to attach the top of the pockets to the backplate? I like how you have those configured.

Island time? Why do we accept this excuse?

Funny, I've spent 2 weeks on Bonaire and a week in the Netherlands and haven't experienced any of this. Then again, being a Florida native I've also never been that jerk that talks down to "staff" and expects everything in a New York minute. Maybe I'm on "island time" or inshallah or whatever...

How does one deal with an instructor that makes them uncomfortable?

That's because it's a completely different course (GUE Rec 1), if that's what you're referring to. "The Recreational Diver Level 1 course is conducted over a minimum of five days, and includes fourteen dives and at least forty hours of instruction, encompassing classroom, land drills, and...

    Finishing OW Cert in Bonaire...

Guess I'll add to what appears to be the consensus... Our kids (12 and 14) did their online work at home, with pool and open water dives last year at Buddy Dive. It was great because my wife and I were able to dive on our own during the day early in the week while the kids were in class, then...

Yeah I was about to say an empty light canister with the holes plugged is very useful.

    Solo diving on Bonaire

Each shop will have their own rules for solo diving. You may or may not observe that reality and what's in writing are two different things. If you have your business together and aren't making a spectacle of yourself, even better. As far as sites that are not located at a shop, there is no...

    Buddy Dive - Questions

I do not agree. My family and I have stayed twice and had no issues. FYI AC only in the bedrooms is not uncommon in Bonaire. I would recommend Buddy Dive for a first timer.

    Tekna gauges - any suggestions?

A UWATEC or even a Mares Puck in gauge mode would be a great inexpensive substitute for it, and yes it is absolutely worth posting about. Oh, and welcome back to the water!!!

    Hooded vests

A properly fitting vest shouldn't be any more difficult to don/doff than your wetsuit. My wife owns one and prefers to wear it underneath her 7mm. She is cold natured and gets chilly after 40 minutes or so in our springs (72F). The vest and head protection make a big difference for her. If you...

Places to stay for large groups

Blennie's (the open air "beach bar/sports bar") is actually pretty good. Never had anything there I didn't like. They also have a swim up bar. I thought the Friday BBQ was decent for an all you can eat. Captain Don's is a walk next door and does theirs on Mondays. Buddy's breakfast buffet is...

Buddy Dive Resort and Dive Site Sampler Video - December 2016

Watched the whole thing. I appreciate you including many topside shots. I go to Bonaire for the diving, but contrary to popular opinion I very much enjoy what it has to offer out of the water as well. I will be there next week so this is making me very excited to return. Very well done!

    Follow up questions after booking

Room and truck key on a necklace, cc and cash in my shorts pocket under my wetsuit. Bonaire establishments will accept wet cash :)

1st trip to Bonaire! Lots of questions.

We will also be there next month with our 11 and 14 year olds. They are doing online courses at home and checkout dives in Bonaire. This will be our second trip and their first. We are staying at Buddy Dive again. Staying somewhere like that with a house reef might help your confidence some...
