    Sand Tiger Shark Question

They cover the wrecks off NC during the summer. You have to get touching distance sometimes just to get through them when they are particularly thick on a wreck. We usually spear on ledges but also hit wrecks some. I’ve shot fish right under their noses and they didn’t seem to notice. Only had a...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

That’s true. I’m not a proponent of extraneous equipment and the focus of recreational diving should be ….. recreational. I do believe that, for those pushing the limits of “recreational” diving, having a pony can make a difference if you strive but fall short 😁 In the end it’s all up to the...

Recreational Pony Bottles, completely unnecessary? Why or why not?

While I agree with many of you that a "new" diver should never be in a position to need a pony as they should be fairly shallow and close to their buddy, however, sometimes stuff happens. I wear one quite a bit but much of my diving is kinda gray area between tec and rec. Usually over 100fsw...

Willing to bet that JBL needs nothing more than new bands and shooting line. Maybe a new spear point.

Never mind. Just checked my AA account and it is now showing no leg from MIA to BON.

    Covid surging in Bonaire

Where did you see that AA has cancelled all flights to Bonaire from Miami? Not saying I don't expect it but we have been booked for Mid March since they first opened up to direct flights and we have not been notified of a cancellation. Obviously, if there is not some way to satisfy the four...

Lost diver - Port Royal Sound, South Carolina - Again

And unless I missed something he’s not in Florida but South Carolina so maybe there’s still a chance he’ll end up under a bridge, you know, for atonement purposes

Is nitrox worth it for deeper rec dives?

Chuck, I know where you are coming from. There are a few wannabe DIR internet divers on here who can't think for themselves, but from what I've seen elgoog isn't one of them. At least not too much :). GI, while obviously an accomplished diver, was just a complete clown on the internet and he...

Long hose slipping out of the webbing while diving / Dive light task loading

I understand that and agree that under some very limited conditions it's a good thing. In reality, the conditions in which total compliance is beneficial is a remarkably small percentage of the diving being done every day. My point is that you need to rig your gear to maximize its...

Long hose slipping out of the webbing while diving / Dive light task loading

Yeah, I wear a seat belt but I don't wear a crash helmet. I tried the 7 ft hose for a couple of dives and it was a pain. For the type of diving I do, it was unnecessary and the extra hose did pose an additional annoyance. I'm usually spearfishing so I've got a lot of stuff going on and I'm...

Long hose slipping out of the webbing while diving / Dive light task loading

I thought the DIR model was to keep things simple. If so, then you are carrying an extra 3 feet of hose because it makes it easier if you have to share air. How often do you have to share air? I'm not carrying an extra 3 ft of hose to mitigate an event that might happen once every thousand...

    Meg ledge in May ??

Wrightsville Beach Diving wbdiving.com. I dive with them a lot. Mostly spearfishing but have started doing some toothing last couple of years. They are the best. They do fill up well in advance, especially on weekends. Since I’m close, I keep an eye in the weather and try to get out weekdays...

84" Primary Regulator Hose vs. 60" vs. 40" w/ Swivel

Like almost every one of these debates, I think this one also hinges on what kind of diving you are doing. I understand that a 7' hose might be an advantage in a cave but in open water I fail to see a benefit. I tried it for a few dives and ended up with a 40" on a swivel. I only dive open...

Is a long hose cumbersome on dive boats?

I tried a long hose for about two ocean dives and decided it was way more hose than I needed. Since I like the primary donate, I got a 40" hose for my primary and route it under my arm. That's an option to consider if you think the long hose is too much. Ken

Did your Super wing get stolen too? Seems like there is a trend in what happens to gear you don't like :):)

    Paralenz Dive Camera...

IMO what Cuzza said is correct. I started wearing a mask mount GoPro about four years ago, mostly when spearfishing. Have a couple hundred dives worth of generally crappy video as, no matter how much I try to focus on the subject, when I'm hunting I'm constantly looking around. If I wasn't...

Is there a valid reason for a pony bottle

Thanks. Lot of very knowledgeable people on here. Unfortunately too often the threads seem to devolve into soap boxing from some of the more rigid thinkers in group. One size seldom fits all. Ken

Is there a valid reason for a pony bottle

Been a member for many years but never posted except to inquire about gear for sale until now. Learned a lot over the years from people on this board but have also waded through countless pages of BS. I think some of the posters, even the more accomplished, lose sight of the fact that every...
