    Where to start?

Sounds good! Livonia isn’t that far for me, I’ll definitely swing by sometime

    Where to start?

Hmmm. I totally get that one unit might not be perfect for everything I want to do. Like in OC, I have three rigs depending on the dive I’m doing (Hollis comfort plate and wing for single-tank, Halcyon Contour for cold-water sidemount mostly in the Great Lakes, and Razor for warm-water sidemount...

Pony bottle valve, Pro vs DIN?

A pro valve on an Al40 is just fine. It gives you all the flexibility you may need, with essentially no drawbacks. I have had pro valves on all my tanks (Al80s and and Al40, and two HP119s), and never had any problems. And most shops have DIN whips anyway, or an adapter. I never had to screw in...

    Where to start?

I have been circling around this strange attractor for a while, and really want to make the leap, but I’m not quite sure how to go about it. I’m a technical and cave diver (AN/DP, stage cave), with more of an interest in caves than open water technical dives. I live in Michigan and dive in the...

    Cave instructor playa del carmen?

I don’t think think you’ll regret doing only cavern and intro now, and come back for full later. I did the same, and those two dozen or so dives at the intro level made a big difference for me in terms of my comfort in the overhead environment. And, if possible at all, do those intro dives with...

Cenotes—cavern diving. Safe for AOW diver?

A few quick comments: I’m a cave diver who has been frequently to the cenotes until last spring. The cavern cenote tours were my gateway drug. The first hit is free (you can do it on your open water cert and in rec gear), then I was hooked and spent a lot of money on training, gear, and travel...

New charges for Sotis (Add helium)and Emilie Voissem (Nexus Underwater)

    Does anyone know who these expert witnesses are? 4. Consistent with the Parties’ oral stipulation made at the status conference, the qualifications of the Government’s two experts, Michael Tu and James Marsh, [DE 25, 26] are not contested and the Court accepts them as qualified experts;

    BP/Wing for HP119 Doubles?

I have a pair of HP119 tanks that I have been using for sidemount diving. I'm thinking about converting them into a pair of backmounted doubles, but I have no suitable backplate/wing harness for them. So I'm looking for recommendations. I will be diving in cold water with a drysuit, usually from...

Cave diving accident in the Mühlbachquellhöhle

Does anyone know anything about this cave diving accident in Bavaria? I just read this article (in German), but it doesn't have much information, except that a medical emergency is suspectd: Toter nach Tauchunfall in Höhle

    Hose retainers for 8" tanks?

Thank you, tbone. I will order some from Bobby. I've had the DiveRite ones before, but even though the claim they work on 8" tanks, they are very tight. And break easily.

    Hose retainers for 8" tanks?

I dive sidemount with a pair of 8" diameter tanks, and the rubber hose retainers that they sell for the more common 7.25" tanks barely fit, and are a pain when I need to re-stow a hose underwater. Does anyone know of commercially available hose retainers for my tanks, or should I just take some...

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

I’m in the same boat. My original AN/DP instructor cannot teach helitrox, so I have to find someone else and do the full thing just to be able to put a bit of helium in to take the edge off the narcosis.

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

But normoxic trimix also requires only four dives, plus the trimix manual with tests. So if you have to do four dives no matter what, what is the point of a stand-alone helitrox course for AN/DP divers? Just the difference in required minimum depth (two dives deeper than 30m for helitrox, or 40m...

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

That stuff is getting expensive. Looks like for a dive to 150’, we should aim for something like 25/25 then. END of 102’ and PPO2 of 1.4 at max depth. Still a lot of $$$, but worthwhile to avoid a “mush brain” or having no memories of the dive afterwards.

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

On a cold-water dive on air or lean nitrox to 130’, I can’t remember all the details of the dive afterwards. That is how I know I’m narced and I avoid going below that. And as a Great Lakes diver you know that there is good stuff in the 130’-150’ range. So adding some helium seems like a good...

    My AN/DP/Helitrox course

Is there a way to upgrade TDI AN/DP to Helitrox? I’d like to be able to use 21/35 for cold water dives where I get easily narced on air, but have no interest in going deeper than 150’. Or is taking the normoxic trimix course the better, or perhaps only option?

3 lost, 2 critical in container ship incident - Long Tau river, Vietnam

Seem like a combination of a game of Mikado pick-up sticks and Russian roulette to me. Nothing I’m eager to try anytime soon.

Depth difference of 0.4m between two Perdixes

There is no way that 40cm difference in depth can result in that kind of a difference in CNS loading. Something else must be going on here.

Two German divers drown at Gran Cenote Kalimba at Tulum

Very sad. I really enjoyed diving that area, and would have liked to come back for more.
