Hi Irish Diver I'm due to go to the Aran Islands next month - have you dived there? Where do you normally dive. Annie

    congor eels help needed

Hi skinnydogdives from another Irish diver. The lobster pots I'm familiar with have an opening in the top where the lobsters can't get out but a conger probably could - you must have had a different kind of pot. I only heard this amazing fact about congers in our waters all being female...

Should I feel as safe as I do?

RJTY has touched on something which has been on my mind recently. I've done over 200 dives but only about 10-20 dives a year for the past 3 years. I have witnessed some accidents over time, and I've had some minor incidents myself, all of which were dealt with in a calm professional way and...

    Pool Pervert!!!

    >>Intuition is a great personal resource but you have to be realistic when you are using it like a super power to stop thought crimes.<< >> I personally think that all white males between 35 and 50 are all potential serial murderers so whenever I see one I make sure to keep my eyes out for...

    Pool Pervert!!!

    >>Am I the only one who finds this social self policing disturbing ? << If someone noticed a sleazy guy perving on me I hope they would point it out before he follows me home. There's a massive difference between these type of guys and normal guys. Creepy sleazebags are dangerous IMO and if...

    Perth VS Cairns...

I spent some time diving in WA and second what Alcina said about Rottnest and south of Perth. I'm so glad I didn't go straight up to Exmouth. My first wreck dive ever was the Swan at Dunsborough! And I spent hours until Busselton Jetty - it's very shallow. Up at Exmouth, I remember the...

    Trip Report- Bali

Driving around Bali is one thing I would not recommend. If you want to dive somewhere just go and stay there for a while. Accomodation is so cheap.

    Australia Diving

The guideline about being on the surface with 50 bar is all over the place (including here in Ireland). Just because they also recommend it in QLD does not mean that it's part of the law there, it may be, I don't know.

You might be a scuba addict if...

I had been on a two week dive holiday in west of Ireland, first diving in months and had a really exciting time. At some point during the second week I half-woke up in a strange bed in a blacked out bedroom and thought . . .Oh my God it's pitch dark and very very still. How did I manage to get...

where to buy prescription dive mask

My boyfriend needs a prescription mask however I'm worried about ordering one without him trying it on first. Is it better to buy a mask and have it customised or just take a chance and order one over the Internet and if it doesn't fit send it back?

    Diving and backpacking

The guideline I'm aware of is that you should service regs annually or every 50 dives . . .could be wrong on that. How many dives would it take a reg to get crudded up through normal use and the odd splash etc. ?

    Diving and backpacking

Looking back, in Australia I did have a spell of staying in a youth hostel . . .I just used to pack away my gear while still wet, back to hostel, hang it all on a tree in the yard, hose it down, have a few beers while keeping an eye on it, when dry put it away in dive bag, put on chain mail and...

    Diving and backpacking

I backpacked for a year in Australia and Asia with all my gear except weights and tank. It wasn't difficult at all . . .I had a dive bag on wheels and just dragged it to the bus or car or whatever. Having said that, in Australia I did stay in places for extended periods. In Asia I moved...

Was this Instructor right or wrong ?

I agree, I find it quite interesting because (correct me if I'm wrong as I haven't been on scubaboard in a while) I don't remember reading a discussion about when an instructor needs to have words with the DM. A lot has already been said but I want to point out something else >>By...

    divemaster internship

There#s some good advice there for you already. I guess my overall tip would be to get as much variety in training as you can. I don't know how many instructors there are but try to work with *all* of them as they will all have different things to teach you. Pick brains. Don't get lazy...

    O-Ring Questions

I had one fail on me at about 20m during a night dive. Very noisy. My buddy came and I went on his alternate and did a normal ascent. I always visually check them now as well.

    Still feeling the boat rocking...

Travelling in Indonesia, whenever I would get to a new place I would wake up in the morning, look around at the room and think "How did I manage to get such a big cabin?" I'd be holding on to the bed trying not to fall out!

    dive accident catalina 10/1/05 0230

The surface is a dangerous place, especially for an OOA diver. Never presume that a diver is ok just cos he / she reaches the surface.

    Creatures that could hurt you

That would so not work if the animal was being territorial . . . for instance I believe grey reef sharks are territorial and can be quite aggressive. I have seen one acting very agressively; we turned and went the other way and it didn't bother us anymore.
