OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

You're so right!! My goodness, the whole time I felt like I was choking with the dang hood on!! I hate that thing! I definitely think I'm supposed to be a warm water diver too!

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

I did it guys!!I passed!!! Woohoo!! :cheerleader: It was a shore dive at Diver's Cove in Laguna....entry was a little bit rough though. I got caught on a wave, lost my balance and got swept away.....unfortunately, I lost my mask & snorkels. I had a moment of panic and freaked out (mostly...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

To everyone who commented on this post: I had a great private one-on-one session with my instructor at the pool in which I did great! Got all the skills, no fears, plus the pool was heated so I did it sans wetsuit, and it felt much, much better! Perhaps I am meant to be a skin diver in warm...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

@Scubanoey - thank you for your insights and sharing your experience! I have a male instructor too and I was thinking maybe a female instructor may have a "softer" touch...though my instructor is very nice too. Yes, I agree. I probably need some more private, one on one time to practice. My...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

@diversteve - yes diving in maui sounds WAY more pleasant than diving in LA.....tooo cold in SoCal. We've been to Maui twice and both times enjoyed snorkeling there tremendously. I agree with you, warm clear waters do make a big difference, both visually and mentally.... ---------- Post added...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

@gcarter - yes, I had the whole shebang!! 7mm wetsuit (yes it was tight, and yes it was uncomfortable), hood, no gloves (though I should've because my hands were freezing in 58 deg water). Yes, it could be the wetsuit. Sport Chalet had a terrible selection of sizes, and it really doesn't fit...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

Thank you @steve_c and budmanok. You are both right. I should never rush. I always feel like I'm falling behind but I shouldn't even worry about the pace of others. That's probably why I had a panic attack. I have yet to learn how to "relax and enjoy" this new skill of scuba diving. For me all...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

Thank you @Scubaba for the reassurance. I agree, pressure could have been one of the triggers. Everyone, including my husband seemed to grasp all the skills so quickly, I think part of me was worried I'm falling behind. Which then cascaded into more worries. Yes, I think I need more practice and...

OW test at Casino Point, freaked out, didn't pass

So my husband and I are getting OW certified through Sport Chalet. Our instructor took us to Casino Point in Catalina this past Saturday. It couldn't of been a prettier day. Nice weather, clear skies, water temp was about 58 degrees. Viz at about 10-15 ft. My husband passed his test and all his...
