Long term dive trip..where to go?

Looks like Utila has the best combination of price, accomadation, and expense of getting there. It also seems to be strong in the IDC catagory, and if I am going to be somewhere for 3 months, getting my divemaster cert seems the least I should do! I'm heading down to cozumel for the week, and...

Long term dive trip..where to go?

Utila is looking awesome from what I have seen sofar, especial the "go pro utila" part of things. The official website is set up to atract exactly what we are looking for, so no need to re-ivent the wheel. My girlfiend is already worried that there won't be enough other stuff to do, so time to...

Long term dive trip..where to go?

Expectations, no particular goals in mind, but need to have availabilty of clean, running drinking water, indoor plubing, enough political stability so that we are likley to return alive. It supposed to be an adventure, so we don't need ALL the comforts of home. We've been thinking about...

Long term dive trip..where to go?

I have a few months between jobs, a little $ in the bank, not much, and a great job lined up come sept. My girlfriend and I are trying to figure out what to do with ourselves, and going ex-pat for a few months seems like fun. Anyone done something like this? Inexpensive is a must, we're...

    What can I do?

If a customer walks in and asks for a specific item...sell them that item. Even if you think you have another peice of equipment that YOU think is better, sell them what they want. If, on the other hand, the customer only has some general ideas about what they want, then present them with...

    Newbie, Poor Diver or Jerk?

After 600 dives, mostly in the NE, I must say I still have trouble with diver on diver contact sometimes. Particuarly on guided drift dives in tropical marine parks, where 6or more divers get in the water, everyone tries to stay in contact with the DM, and everyone wants to look at things in...

    Ankle weights

If ankle weights add weight to your extremities, thereby increasing work and air consumption, and negativly bouyant jetfins add weight (negative bouyancy) to your extremities....does that make jetfins inherently less efficient?

    wetsuit hangers

Rumpled up in the bottom of the closet works also (after its dry), the only time I have ever managed to damage a wetsuit is when I packed it too tight in a suitcase and used it to pad my reel. I have a small reel indentation on it. Otherwise they are resiliant.

    Dacor Status

If you have an older Dacor reg, you can take advantage of a trade in program Mares is running, I traded in my Dacor Quantum for a Mares Abyss, cost a little $ but man what an upgrade. My local lds was unware of the program untill I informed them of it, or perhaps they simply dont want to...

    DM Salary

I managed to make about a grand a week doing light marine services at least during the summer. I like so many others who hace carved out a wonderfull niche for ones self I gave it up for a woman, the right choice of course, just not good for my dive life. We're moving down to NZ for a year...

Diverite Transpac, compatable with other wings?

I've been looking at BC's for my g/f, she prefers the simpler style of the harnessish BC's over the jacket style, but is intimidated by the backplate systems, she will be usuing it entirely with singles, and mostly warm to warm temperate diving. She also liked the fit of the Transpac in the...

Diverite Transpac, compatable with other wings?

Is it possible to use other manufacturers wings with the Diverite transpac? Are there compatability issues, or it as modular as most BP/W setups?

    Online vs. Local Dive Shop

I'll be candid right off, I have not had a good experiance at my LDS where I recieved my training, and its the usual laundery list of complaints, having ill fitting pooh foisted on my as a beginner package, at what turned out to be an inflated price ect. PLUS, as a glutton for punishment, my...

    BP and Wing Travel Setup

Thanks for all the feedback! I ordered my 18# wing and am looking forward to trying it out. From what everyone has said, it should be perfect for what I am looking to do with it. I looked at the Mach V, but decided to save some $$$, it looked sweet, but I have my other bladded when I need...

    BP and Wing Travel Setup

I have a 6# SS backplate and a STA, and I don't want to purchase a 2nd backplate for travel. When I dove in warm water (3mm full suit) with a jacket style BC, I wore between 6 and 8lbs of weight on my belt. I am thinking about an 18lbs lift Oxycheq wing to save weight (compared to my current...

a SCUBA diver was almost killed at a local marina in St.Margaret's Bay

New member, diving for a while, but I think well suited to adding to the debate started by the earlier posts on this thread. I spent 3 summers in the NE of the US doing what I describe as "light salvage" or something similarly vague, as it was a very grey area as to what I was doing was called...
