    Rude divers

People are like gremlins, their top side personality is amplified when wet. Best to avoid the people you describe on the beach as well.

    The Great Dive Podcast

Sweet. Always looking for a good scuba podcast for windshield time. What I've found out there is fairly disappointing in general.

    West End Recommendations?

Vintage Pearl is great but I think the Thirsty Turtle gets over looked. Fine dining it may not be but has a great feel and the food is amazing. Last time we were there, they had a whole fried snapper (yellowtail) better than anything on the Vintage Pearl menu.

    Has anyone done Iceland?

Only Silfra. Was worth it for the experience, a bit of a cattle drive but still worth it. My wife and I aren't really into dry diving and we were in Iceland to see the action topside so we didn't do any other dives. I heard great things about the West Fjords from others on the Silfra dive...

What safety items do you check prior to boarding a dive boat?

Glad it turned out well. Sounds like there were many issues prior to and during the cruise that should have constituted a cancellation and turnaround. I am fortunate to have never experienced anything on the order of yours on a dive boat but your story did give me pause. I can remember...

    Preferred Underwater Signaling Device

Agreed. I know where the tank banger hate comes from and get it but for me, it makes no sense to preach the need for a surface signaling devices and blast those that carry the equivalent under water. I dive with a tank banger because it makes sense to be able to 'annoy' other divers if the...

Sunblock that will not wash off?

Not sure where you are at but you can get it at Sprouts Farmers Market if they have those near you. Otherwise, the internet or a dermatologist as Colliam7 said.

Sunblock that will not wash off?

Ditto on Blue Lizard, my wife and I used it on our last trip and didnt even get a tan. I work outside year round so nothing remarkable there, but my wife is a fair skinned redhead who works inside. Get Blue Lizard and you will be happy!

Dive Computer Failure -- Ending the Dive

I appreciate the feedback from everyone. Definite food for thought. At this point in my diving career I cannot justify two computers. Especially when the first one I have owned hasn't even gotten wet! I am excited to start using my computer to enhance my diving ability but I will still dive...

Dive Computer Failure -- Ending the Dive

Good point. Something to definitely consider. ---------- Post added July 13th, 2014 at 10:49 AM ---------- Now that is cool. ---------- Post added July 13th, 2014 at 10:57 AM ---------- Ha! I'll take that under advisement. My dive shop MST used another word to describe me. CHEAP...

Dive Computer Failure -- Ending the Dive

Tis true that is how I have dove my whole life, not that I have 1000 dives or anything but the 75 in my log book have always been planned and executed on a table. Interesting that you have never seen it. I am not a tech diver and do not pretend to preach that tables are the way to go, it is...

Dive Computer Failure -- Ending the Dive

Until recently I have always been a BT and Tables diver and always planned my own dive even when diving with a group charter. In fact I have turned down computers on rental equipment dives and thumbed more than one dive when my time was up based on the profile planned and actual dive executed...

to feed the fish.... or not to feed the fish...?

Hmm, that changes the thought pattern a bit. I may have misunderstood your description of 'house reef' as well. Is this an artificial reef you have installed/maintained? If, so I wonder what the introduction of supplementary feed would do to the carrying capacity of your reef, or if it would...

to feed the fish.... or not to feed the fish...?

I wouldn't recommend it either. The best way to propagate fish on your reef is to protect your reef. While its true that our oceans are over fished; reefs occupy a different niche than the support structure for most commercially harvested fish (grouper/snapper and other reef harvests...

    Beginner/inexperienced diver advice Roatan

Seconded. Roatan is a great dive destination for experienced and inexperienced alike. You will love it and odds are the weather will be favorable. If you survived the currents of Cozumel the waters of Roatan will be more than welcoming. My wife and I have been all over and decided after our...
