    Suunto Cobra vs. Vyper

Interesting post. I'm looking into picking up a Cobra myself, and I thought it would be prudent to use redundancies, such as an analogue gauge and watch, as well as paying attention to tables. Can I use an analogue SPG and use the Cobra AI; should there be enough ports on the first stage? How...

    fin spring straps

Hey SB, What are some of your opinions of spring fin straps? I've been thinking of getting some and I was wondering if there were any drawbacks that I should consider. As it stands I have some Aqualung Blades with the doffing clips, which are real nice to get the fins off but when they break...

    Skills worth practicing during dives?

Yes, everyone above has made very valid points. Drills especially help when doing a local site that might be considered 'boring' (ie the local fw bay where I live.. yay crayfish). It helps to add something to do, while also increasing your confidence.

    Half Turned Valve

I see. Thanks for the answer.

    Half Turned Valve

I've often wondered what the purpose of the half/quarter turn back on the valve was supposed to do. I have yet to get a straight answer as to why it's a recommended practice.

    what would you be?

If you could be anything in the ocean what would you be? Don't worry, this isn't some psychological test or anything. ;) . I think I would want to be a blue whale, nothing would screw with me except humans.

    Terrible Advanced open water experience

haha... yeah it can sure seem that way, especially if there's a long walk to the dive site. I use 34# in the ocean (with a full 2 piece 7 mil suit, al80) and knock off about 4-6 pounds in freshwater. I would sure like to know what it's like to dive in warm water with a shorty, it sounds nice... ;)

    cool video, check it out

True enough, that's a good point. I normally wouldn't attempt a wreck penetration at all, but this one does seem to be fairly accessable. Point well taken though.

yay indeed. we knew the risks and frankly the payoff was more than worth it. Besides which there were a good many exits had something gone wrong. However, I can see why someone would take issue with that.

My mistake, apparently it's a 737. Check out this link to find out the story of how the wreck got there. BC divers owe Mr. Pete Luckham a great many thanks for getting this organized.

    Dive Trip!

Been a while SB, Unfortunetly I have not got wet enough this summer, but that will change very soon. I will be headed for the west coast tomorrow to beautiful British Columbia (specifically Vancouver Island). Oh how I can not wait. I love it out there, the ocean sure beats the lakes around here...

    Any other guitarists/musicians around here?

I'm also a guitar player. I guess I've been playing for a little over 10 years, on and off. I used to play in a punk rock band, that was good fun. I still write some stuff, but I don't play professionally or anything. I know it's all jokes, but what's with slaggin on the drummers? A band...

    problem dive in retrospect

Hey all, So I had my first dive of the year last night at the local easy dive site (~27 ffw). I encountered quite a few problems and I've had time to analyse them. Firstly, I had significant trouble descending (see last post). It took me a good couple minutes and a few hundred psi as I was...

    Proposing a New Hand Signal

I think a thumb up with a side-to-side motion (sort of like the 'something's wrong' signal) would work the same.

    tank banger or rattler??

I have a rattler type thing.. I think it's called an "Acou-stik" .. I got it for christmas, frankly I don't think I'll use it much because it's a little bulky to be carrying around or getting it in and out of BC pockets.
