    Mask strap for diving?

My mistake, I didn't make it out clearly on my small phone screen. Looks to be clear plastic tubing over a vertical piece of webbing on the back. Now that I've typed this, what's the function of said tubing?

    Mask strap for diving?

I'm guessing the "if ain't broke" reason is why. But without having ever heard of this UWR strap (or UWR for that matter!), here are a few guesses which are actually more rhetorical questions. 1. Possible issues with gas sharing if diving a long hose due to the metal bar. 2. Perhaps a bit...

    Asia trips and coronavirus

The seasonal US flu is more scary to me with 19 million Americans infected, over 180,000 hospitalized, and 10,000 deaths at the time of this writing. A deadly virus is spreading from state to state and has infected 19 million Americans so far. It's influenza But yes, keep watching as services...

    Neanderthals may have practiced freediving

Not sure that this is what the above was saying. Anyhow, check out "mammalian diving reflex". A good way to frame evolutionary fitness in this context.

Securing A Rebreather In A Vehicle

I don't dive a RB (yet!). But have a tip from my car racing days for those using seat belts. Before you fully pull out the seat belt, yank on it so that it ratchets tight from the inertia mechanism. Then buckle in. It's so that there is no play during braking/ deceleration.

    Good, inexpensive luggage?

Separately, for hardside luggage, check out Muji. Most people in the US have never heard of them, but they're really high value for the money if you can get in Asia. I like the Muji store in Singapore's Changi airport, it has a good selection, often discounts and tax-free for tourists if I...

    Good, inexpensive luggage?

Maybe sharing what I do can help Kimela and elicit constructive advice for me. I fly several times the Earth's circumference every year for diving, but mostly work :/ I've got two packing permutations. OPTION 1 This is for basically "dive only" trips where I don't have to use up carry-on...

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

Are you saying to maintain the professional/ liability insurance even if one isn't working as a professional (ie if on "inactive" status?).

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

I didn't want to turn this into an agency discussion much, but the direct answer is no, RAID doesn't have a fundies type of course. However, key common aspects are taught in their open water course. Proper trim and buoyancy from Day 1 (never any kneeling), and after that, all skills must be...

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

@tbone1004 Thank you. Yeah, I pretty much figured as this is down the professional route. But I also figured that any decent in-water time would be good. Doesn't hurt that it's cheaper than just going out diving as here it's pretty much all guided and by boat. Prefer not to disclose my...

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

Thanks, Sh0rtBus! To clarify, I wasn't asking about changing the course, exactly. But whether there's anything I myself can do to make the experience more valuable. Great point about people finding you more approachable as a DM. Apparently, RAID also agrees and there's a blurb somewhere in...

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

Great question, which merits a somewhat detailed response. 1. General goal is to advance my comfort as mentioned. Might have done this with just diving a lot. But where my non-diving assignment has me based and other circumstances, it works out that on a per dive basis, the DM course is...

DM course | what you'd have done differently?

Hi all, A bit of background. I'm starting my DM course. It's not an internship, and will be done on some weekends spread over months. My personal gear is all DIR "compliant". In fact so is the dive center's, other than adjustable harnesses in their rental backplates given the task of...

    Converse All-Stars (Chuck’s) for diving

Resurrecting an old thread here, but relevant to my question. For wetsuit/ warm water, are you all diving without the inner soles from the Chucks? I figured the soles might get funky and take some time to dry out, but not sure. Thank you.

Hello from new OWC divt (OC, Cali)

Hi all, Just wanted to say hi! Just got my OWC done today, and already know diving is for me. I'll be doing more lurking than posting (as I do for other forums) so that I can search, read and get the noobie questions out of the way. I'm from California, but work takes me a lot to Southeast...
