Forget about right rich, left lean crap.
It's just a pony. Clip it wherever you want.
If you do move onto technical diving, clip it wherever you want. I like all left and a leash. But I'll clip them absolutely anywhere!
Why? Because a proper switching and rotation procedure is much more...
To be fair, I have dived without an SPG or J-valve, in a cave, by counting breaths...
Depends what you call a dive though

It's worth noting that Otter drysuits ( Otter Drysuits, UK) have been used for the worlds most extreme cave dives....
Pozo Azul - Cave Diving Beyond the Limits
The Britannic telescopic mark 2 is the one in question. I use it for gnarly sidemount (as far as you can fit a drysuit anyway) and...
So you are suggesting an AI transmitter isn't a large device with more complication than a blanking plug with more chance of getting hit?
Especially if you put it on a hose!

I don't like swivel turrets.
Reducing number of ports is why the DS1 exists.
What has more o-Rings and more chance of failure...
A regulator with an SPG, primary, Octo and inflator. And a blanked off HP and LP port?
Or a regulator with all the above, plus a transmitter?

Sorry, it may be a colloquialism on my part.
I wasn't suggesting you said you needed it.
What winds people up, or me up, is when people pretend they actually NEED it.
There isn't a dive, or dive task, on the planet that actually requires AI.

To everyone saying "I want a petrel for a progression to tech, but I use AI now"
Well use an SPG. It'll ease your transition to tech.
Failure of a dive computer isn't life critical if you have a back up comp/timer and printed schedule.
Failure of an AI transmitter attached to the HP port...
It's supposed to take a little effort to get underwater in the first place!
Not that I'd encourage it. But some of the dives I do buoyancy cannot be worn.
It's a real eye opener to discover just how little weight you really need.

Someone hit a very good point earlier.
"'Most tech divers know what's in their tank anyway"
This is so true. I was once told before a complex, task loaded cave dive to guess my pressures before I looked at my gauges. If I was more than 10bar (150psi) out, I probably shouldn't be trying to do...
Digital compass is of great use for underwater cave surveying as the accuracy you can read an analogue compass is much less.
Unless you take a surveying compass, but that's an extra piece of gear so we save that for much more detailed surveys than ones on exploration.
