    Custom lead mold

I welded some moulds up in some scrap stainless (mild steel would work too). If you have an angle grinder and welder it is cheap and easy.

    Sydney Fatality During Dive Course

Actually, I saw a video where the boss or whomever from the shop said it was her first dive following her OW course. Very sad indeed.

    Tg-6 Housing (Need opinions!)

I have the Olympus housing, it works. I can be a bit careless and it has leaked a couple of times, this is the joy of having a cheap waterproof camera inside. Even at depth, you are only talking about a tiny increase in pressure unless you totally forget to put the O-ring in the main seal. What...

    Choosing a regulator

All regs work. I have apeks xtx50 and mk25/a700. Do hunt around, prices vary quite a bit. Doesn't matter if you go for a cheap occy imo. I would consider Deep6 too, simply because they don't have stupid policies on gear servicing. If you're a competent enough person it isn't hard to DIY. 14c...

Saving money on a weight harness

I think it's funny when strangers ban people from diving on their boat based on one piece of information. I'm just glad there is plenty of shore diving here. There are plenty of circumstances where one is over-weighted with their gear with no extra weight. I know anyone in my AN/DP course were...

Sidemount as a first own setup?

Ahem, I dive sidemount Michael. It is harder and is not needed for rec diving. It is nice having redundancy if you want to do long dives and accrue deco. Not sure I really want to have the SM vs BM argument because both work. Honestly If you really want to dive SM, a couple of small cylinders...

    Layered wetsuits for 13°C/55°F waters

Temperature, time and number of dives all play a key roll in deciding what thermal protection to wear. If you're like me and plan on being in the water for at least 100 mins with possibly a double dive, then you'll want a drysuit with some decent undergarments. If you're going for a 30 minute...

    Sidemount AI configuration options

Tell them how to think :P . It's a pretty small compromise (if they want to see it that way) considering you're paying. No point getting specialty training if you're not going to dive that way.

    Sidemount AI configuration options

One was burning through batteries (like overnight) then stopped. The other was working during a dive on a Saturday then dead when I setup my gear on the Sunday morning. Shearwater replaced the units and I have a third so no big deal. Both failures were easy to catch and unless I didn't do gear...

    Sidemount AI configuration options

I concur with others who have suggested transmitters only. I've never had a problem underwater. My only suggestion, have a spare transmitter or spg in your save a dive kit. I've had 2 fail, both above water.

    Deco hand signal?

I learnt it to be the pinky finger. However among my buddies that also means 'Pygmy Pipehorse' which is a far more common thing to communicate. I just point to my computer and show my buddy. I now have my perdix's attached to my camera meaning I can just turn it arount and show them, easy.

How many dives did you manage in 2019 - Recap

It'd be great to see peoples average dive times, or total dive time too, to get an even better picture. I've probably done around 40 dives this year, shortest being 60mins and longest being 170mins (longest dive for me so far). I'd guess I average around or just over 100 mins. One trip away up...

Nitrox - Is it "worth it"?

I'm just going to grumble about having to pay someone to be allowed to dive it. The course holds bugger all value, pretty clearly a money grab. It should be part of being taught to dive to begin with. Just do it, you'll use it, it's an invaluable tool and there isn't any way around it...

Tank Size in Dive Computer Dive Planner

Yes, use metric and do away with this cubic feet nonsense. Only thing you would need to change is maybe an SPG.

Is 16 dives in 3 days too aggressive?

While I don't have 30 people to measure depth to 60 feet like you clearly do :P ... I run a 30/85 gradient factor. How long is a piece of string? 32% with a 15l (or actually my twin 7's SM now) for 22m max depth works well for me and generally air on other dives, max 15m or so. These are my...

Is 16 dives in 3 days too aggressive?

To the OP - Follow your computer, be conservative, do a 5 min safety stop. If you have the energy to get kitted up or to just change a tank that many times in a day there is no harm in it. For me I think the ideal is 2 100-120min dives (or more if it's shallow) and a night dive. I dislike...

Yet another: Which 38-40lb wing to buy

These guys are located in the ACT and have been good to deal with for all my bits and bobs for sidemount. If the quality is like my stealth I'd certainly be happy to recommend xdeep for a wing. Alternatively skip the BM and pickup a sidemount wing of your own :D Deep Dive Gear - Dive your...

How often do you check up on your buddy during a dive?

Maybe when you catch up to them if they find a critter or vice versa, but seldom to ask them how they are. I am self sufficient as a diver and I expect the same from anyone I go diving with, bar an absolute novice. I expect my buddy will head back once they are out of air, you would normally...
