Springs closer to east side of state?

Thanks guys. We decided to stick w Crystal River and did the combo snorkel/dive with American Pro today. Some quick advice.. skip the manatee snorkel. All they did was load us up onto a pontoon boat and drive us 10 minutes up King Springs into what looked like a neighborhood harbor. Once a...

Springs closer to east side of state?

Good morning from Florida!!! We’ve been visiting your beautiful state for a bit over a week (Key Largo) and are ready to permanently relocate (only half joking..). We’ve booked a few trips while we’re in the Keys, but will be driving up north on Saturday to eventually fly out of Savannah. We...

Thanks for all of the suggestions!! We’ve never done a freshwater dive before (or seen manatees) so we’re really looking forward to it :)

    Crystal River or Devil’s Den?

Hiya fellow mermaids and mermen! We’re headed to the Keys at the end of October (first time, so excited!!!) After spending 10 days in Key Largo, we’re going to make our way up to Savannah. We plan on stopping to do some freshwater diving; would you recommend Devil’s Den or the Crystal River? Or...

Shore diving in or near Cancun?

We're thinking maybe Cancun early summer and I was wondering if there were any good shore dives nearby? We haven't been to the Caribbean yet so right now the trip is in the early planning stages. We have our own gear so we like to cut costs by doing shore dives and renting a condo with a kitchen...

    Night diving in Maui?

Thanks guys. A shore dive (night) might be a better option and certainly cheaper! We normally do Ulua (in Wailea) for most of our shore dives but I'd like to get up to Black Rock this time around.

    Night diving in Maui?

Has anyone done any night diving in Maui? I took a quick look and saw that several folks do shore diving at Black Rock but I didn't see any boat dives that go out past 6:00 pm. Thanks in advance!! Angie

Maui: Ed Robinsons Dive Adnventure (ERDA) Review

We love ERDS! Been out to Molokini twice with them and had a fantastic time. Dave was our dive leader this last trip and Captain Byrd was there both trips. He is definitely a character but we thought he was great. On the 2 tank Molokini dive, they'll stop at one additional site on the way there...

    Diving with Medical Condition PFO

I'm so glad to find this thread. I was also recently diagnosed with a PFO (grade 5+ after valsalva, 0 at rest). I'm going in for a TEE to make sure it's not an ASD but my cardio suspects it's just a PFO. He did advise me not to dive unless I had it repaired but after doing some further reading I...

Missing diver in Tacoma Washington (Les Davis)

I was recently certified with the dive shop that was with this group. I have no idea who the dive leader was but I'm very shocked and saddened to hear that they were involved and that a life was lost. Our instructor was amazing and stressed the importance of always knowing where your buddy was...

Has anyone NOT passed their OW?

Thanks for the helpful advice and words of encouragement (so glad I found this board!) The "we" is my boyfriend and myself, we're taking private lessons and doing our referral dives in Maui next month with Ed Robinson's (Ulua Beach.. been there many times as a snorkeler :cool2: ). Our instructor...

Has anyone NOT passed their OW?

Has anyone not passed their OW? Just finished our confined water and classroom sessions, will be taking our final written within the next week or so and open water dives in Maui next month. Our instructor said we're doing well but that we're not quite ready for the final open water and need a...

Upcoming new diver here. Couple certification questions and med question.

Howdy! I also have mild mitral valve prolapse/regurgitation (not currently taking meds for it). I think everyone else covered it.. you absolutely need to have your doctor sign the medical waiver if you're taking any medications or have any health conditions. Just wanted to give my two cents...

PADI shop won't do referral dives for SSI?

I have spoken with Ed Robinson's and my dive instructor. I will be certified through SSI. Our final pool session is Friday then we'll do our written exams and have our referral paperwork completed to take on our trip. Once our open water dives are completed we'll get temporary 2 week...

PADI shop won't do referral dives for SSI?

Thanks for the info diversteve. Yes, I was clear with Robinsons that we are coming with an SSI referral. Out of curiosity, what are the additional/different skills for the PADI vs SSI test?

PADI shop won't do referral dives for SSI?

That's great to hear. Robyn helped us book our certification days and we are going to Molokini a couple of days later. Our trip is Apr 17 to 27.. Been to Maui a dozen times but this will be our first official dive trip :)

PADI shop won't do referral dives for SSI?

Thank you all for your quick replies. Ed Robinson's replied, they are going to do our referral dives. Very friendly and $50 cheaper than the other shops ($249.00). It doesn't matter to me if my certification is PADI or SSI, I just want to dive :)

PADI shop won't do referral dives for SSI?

Aloha! I just got off the phone with Maui Dreams Dive Co and was informed that they won't do referral dives for SSI. Whaaa?? From what our instructor told us (and from what I've researched online) this isn't accurate.. is it? I was told that as long as I have a signed referral form I wouldn't...
