Good point. Admittedly, I haven't researched the seasons in west Malaysia much. In East Malaysia it's usually stormy season from January to March. When would you say is the best time of year for Redang? I'm flying domestically so I can definitely change when I go.

The vietnamese coffee maker is different then a french press in that it tends to turn out to be a bolder coffee (nothing like Turkish coffee though), and you often have a very little grounds at the bottom of the coffee cup, but I also don't think I have the knack to using it just right yet...

I totally get it. On occasion, I have brought ground coffee and my Vietnamese coffee maker. It's all metal so won't break in my luggage. Cost about $1 (in Vietnam) and makes a mean cup of coffee. I can't do instant anymore...lol.
