My LDS has just told me that the DX-2G is a discontinued product and it's replacement won't be available (in New Zealand) until November.
Any news on what the replacement will be?
I've been agonising over upgrading my 8000G for sometime and finally decided on the DX-2G over a Canon G12...
A couple of questions regarding this course.
1. In terms of crossing over from PADI, the SDI IT Staff Instructor rating is probably most comparable to a PADI Course Director. However, can any credit be giving to PADI IDC Staff Instructors? A PADI IDCS can teach an entire PADI IDC under indirect...
Had a pretty cool experience yesterday whilst out diving.
The local rescue helicopter has a new winchman in need of training, and they teamed up with one of our dive charters (Dive! Tutukaka) to get some practice for the new guy.
We were on board and got to see the whole thing. For divers...
I notice that HOG D1 first stages now have a 5th LP port on the end of the turret.
Can these turrets be retro-fitted to older D1 first stages? Any pointers as to where they could be sourced if so? Thanks.
Seemingly obvious.... but with a spin.
Let's say there was a single passageway into the land, partly filled with water so that you can always ascend to the surface. From a diving perspective, is this a cave, a cavern.... or neither?
Let's then say that this passageway goes so far back that...
Posted on behalf of a friend.
Can anyone recommend an IT who has been approved to conduct Intro to Cave instructor evaluations? Here's the catch, the IT needs to be in one of the following (in order of preference):
1. Australasia
2. UK
3. France
4. SE Asia
My friend is looking at...
Just curious, if planning a dive using a bottom stage (in a non-overhead environment) as well as back gas - how much of the gas is usable?
For the sake of argument, let's say the dive is at an easy site - step off the back of the boat and pootle around and surface anywhere (an "all usable"...
I am curious, inspired to dome degree by a post outside of the T2T forum.
How many members of the T2T forum are instructors? If so, did you get into tech diving because you needed to have something that was "your own" in terms of diving? Were you bored with the diving you were doing, and...
I'll write something up properly, with photos, in the next couple of days.... but currently relaxing at home with a glass of Central Otago Pinot Noir, having just finished Tech 1. :cool2:
This was the first GUE Tech 1 to run in NZ, and we overcame the logistical nightmare of finding a way to...
I'm just curious, how do people manipulate a valve whilst closing/opening udring a valve drill etc?
Do you use your fingers, roll it with your thumb or have you never even thought about it?
The Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures course is a great introduction to technical diving, and will allow you to extend your diving limits.
Location: Auckland/Tutukaka
Dates: 15, 16, 17, 23 & 24th January

My XXL F1s arrive today. I've got a couple of photos showing the sizes of the fins in relation to Scubapro Jets.
These are posted on a thread on another scuba forum, in a universe a long way away, long ago:
www.scubadive.net.nz • View topic - The perfect fin?
Once I get hold of a...
I'm looking for a jet fin clone that falls between the Scubapro XL and XXL jet fin sizes.
Anyone know how the XS Scuba "Power Fin" compares? Trying to work out whether an XL Power Fin will work for me.
I use an XL Bare Trek boot, foot size is a US11.5 (EU44). With Scubapro, an XL is too...
Tech Dive NZ is pleased to announce that it now has a full range of Technical Diving Equipment for hire.
Backplates, wings, canister lights etc are all Halcyon - top notch equipment.
Regulators are available for both single tank long hose and twin tank configurations, being a mix of...
I have to share our dive from yesterday - the plan was perfect, to find and explore New Zealand's first hydro-electric power station.
The building of Horahora Power Station started in 1910, and after three years it went into operation.
Over time, more hydro stations were built on the...
