    CGM and diving

I was also concerned about the effects of depth on my CGM (Dexcom G6), but my experience has been similar to those stated here. I did 2 dives in Guam in June/2022, and 4 dives in the Philippines October/2022. The deepest dive was around 80 ft. I did cover the CGM with Tegaderm for added...

NAUI "Sport Diver" Certification from 1977

Well, I have upgraded my training--with PADI--since I started diving again a few years ago. But, like @scrane, I was proud of my 1975 Naui certification. I also was certified at the Coral Reef Marine Center on Guam, and it was not easy. I remember that the instructors didn't think I was a strong...

NAUI "Sport Diver" Certification from 1977

Just stumbled on to this thread. Several years back, I tried to verify my old Naui basic scuba diver certification from 1975, but they could not locate it. I gave them the date, and instructor's name, the shop- to no avail. I had lost the card and initial paperwork, but they said if I remembered...

    Finclip - We're back!

I got mine in early February. I was hoping to try them in Anilao in mid February, but had to cancel the outing for family illness. I have a trip planned for Labor Day, so I will try them out then.

What other than a wetsuit (for a guy)?

Would it be because the Henderson polyolefin suit is front zip? (Most of the other full suits mentioned are the usual back zip configuration). I liked the front zip design.

What other than a wetsuit (for a guy)?

Henderson makes a polyolefin full suit ("Hotskins") that is cheaper than Sharkskin. They fit snugly, but maybe not as tight as neoprene does. Works well as a protective layer and for mild thermal insulation (more than lycra). These days, I tend to use two piece lightweight neoprene tops and...

    Travelling through Guam

Guam is an unincorporated territory of the US, a duty free port, and outside the US customs zone. You have to go through customs. It is, however, in the USA, so no immigration screening for US citizens.

    Single Tank Dive Resorts

Welcome to Scubaboard, Serafina. I recently stayed at one of the all inclusive resorts in south Cozumel. Most of the dive spots are within 5-15 minutes boat ride away from the resort, so the boats would sometimes return to the resort dock after a single dive to drop off or to pick up other...

Going to Anilao solo... ...recommendations please

Just a point regarding Batangas coffee: The province is known for "Barako" coffee, using the Liberica bean. Most local drinkers will add a lot of sugar, and maybe milk--Barako drunk black is an acquired taste. It's still worth a try if you are into coffee. There is good Arabica coffee grown in...

    Kansas City Blues

I believe Sam's Skin N Scuba in Independence has a pool, a robust travel program, with comprehensive equipment and training resources. They can probably point you to any local or nearby dive spots.

Wetsuit solutions for those with neoprene allergies?

I have used the Henderson polyolefin fullsuit in tropical waters. I'd estimate it to be as warm as a 1.5- 2mm wetsuit (I also use a two piece neoprene suit in these thicknesses). Maybe with an added vest?

    Isla Mujeres recommendations (Food, etc.)?

I was there a few weeks ago for a few days. There's a shopping/dining/drinking area on the North end of Miguel Hidalgo Ave, with a cluster of restaurants that might have what you're looking for. The clientele is a mix of local and tourist. We also had some pretty good lunches at Cafe Mogagua on...

Where to stay for "best" dives in Riviera Maya

I am heading out to the area soon, and I will be staying in Isla Mujeres, and doing a few dives, as well as a whale shark outing, before heading to Cozumel for a few days. The diving is likely not as good as Cozumel, but the operator I am using touts several sites: MUSA (the underwater museum...

Lightweight hood for scalp sun protection?

I've tried the Riffe Lycra hood: Amazon.com : Riffe Cryptic Camo Lycra Hood (Reef) : Wetsuit : Sports & Outdoors It should be similar to the Mako hood. They fit well under a wet suit top, and are of a thicker variety of Lycra. The Henderson lycra hood recommended by @uncfnp is lighter, also...

Cancun to Isla Mujeres to Cozumel

I opted to use CARM to book a private ride for two from CUN to Puerto Juarez. Price: $35. This is certainly not the most economical method, but it is not bad for two people and obviates the uncertainty of ground transportation from CUN. From Puerto Juarez to Playa del Carmen I also booked CARM...

Cancun to Isla Mujeres to Cozumel

Thanks for the replies thus far. Some clarification: One of us (me) is in fact carrying heavy luggage. For this trip, we would try to avoid public transportation (except for the ferries). Mostly, we are unclear about the Cancun airport to Puerto Juarez ferry, and Ferry to Ferry portions (Puerto...

Cancun to Isla Mujeres to Cozumel

I am going to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel mid July for a week of vacation and diving with a newly minted open water diver (she's apprehensive still--hasn't caught the bug). I am looking for some advice/suggestions from the board. We are arriving Cancun airport, heading directly to Isla Mujeres for...
