Thanks to everyone for the advice and input. It is very helpful. Hopefully I can take a training class in the future.

Recommendations for Place to Service Dive Rite Regulators

Its time for me to service my Dive Rite Regs (XT1/XT2 first and seconds). I have been planning to send them to Dive Gear Express since that is where I purchased them, but the prices seem a little high to me. Its 75$/second for service, but at this moment I can buy new Deep6 x-series 2nds for...

Advice for an extra Friday in LA in September

I thought I would give an update on my plans. I can get an early flight that lands at LAX at 8:30 Wednesday morning. The plan is to get a ride to Longbeach, ferry to Avalon, do 1 or 2 guided shore dives, hopefully sometime between 11 and 4, and then ferry back that afternoon/evening and check...

Advice for an extra Friday in LA in September

Thanks for the replies. I will be staying around USC. The easiest would be to shore dive, but since I would be solo and have no idea what I am doing its hard to make that work out. I would need to coordinate with a shop, rent a DM to go with me, that sort of thing. Anything more than that, and...

Advice for an extra Friday in LA in September

I am taking a business trip to LA in early September. If it was just the business part, I would fly in Wednesday evening, have meetings on Thursday, and fly back out Friday. But I am thinking about trying to stay an extra day to dive. So that would mean diving on Friday and flying back on...

Gear Rinse - Maybe a better way

I also rinse before the soak. What I actually do is: 1. Rinse on the boat while heading back in, if they have a hose and allow this. Often this is with all the gear on, but sometimes not. 2. At home in bathtub, put on the AL19 and pressurize, then rinse the first and second stages with warm...

Gear Rinse - Maybe a better way

I am a beginning diver, but a few years ago I purchased an AL19 that I use solely for checking regs before a dive trip and then soaking regs overnight after a trip. The AL19 fits perfectly in the bathtub, and I get it filled 1-2 times a year. I am happy with this purchase and am confident it...

Advice on used HP100s, I think 7/8" neck

I appreciate all the advice. I am still unsure what to do and leaning towards passing. The issue is that even if I get the tanks cheap, I will have to travel to get them, pay for Hydro/VIS, risk them failing or try to negotiate with the owner to hydro them first, pay for valve service or...

Advice on used HP100s, I think 7/8" neck

Am I correct here: 1. If I had a DIN reg these tanks/valves could be used for nitrox with O2 cleaning. 2. If I want to install new valves, the only valves available are the XS Scuba valves which are DIN only and not nitrox compatible: XSS Valve, 300 Bar DIN outlet, 7/8 UNF inlet threads |...

Advice on used HP100s, I think 7/8" neck

Short Story I would appreciate any advice on these tanks, particularly the valves. My research suggests PST HP100 with the 7/8” neck/valves (3500), legal only for DIN regs and only for air, and therefore cannot be used for either nitrox or with yoke regulators. My regs are yoke and I dive...

    Destin v Pensacola

I dont have a lot of experience with Destin or a ton of diving experience total, so this is mostly a comparison of Pensacola/Orange Beach/GulfShores vs. Panama City from a lifetime of beach vacations and more recent dive trips. In my experience, the farther you get from the Mississippi River...

    PO2 dive computer warning

I cannot turn these alarms off unless I set it in Tech mode, which up to now I have been hesitant to do. But perhaps that is what I should do when diving nitrox. I have no plans to exceed 1.4, but also don't want to artificially hold myself at 1.2 just to avoid a warning alarm.

    PO2 dive computer warning

Ok. Fixed. I am fine with the thread being deleted at this point, since I have my answer.

    PO2 dive computer warning

Yea, sorry. I had typos and not (I don't think) math issues. So I meant to write PO2 of 1.2 and 1.4 (not 1.02 and 1.04). My bad there and sorry for the confusion. I could edit the first post but probably should just leave it now to avoid further confusion. I am actually not doing math in this...

    PO2 dive computer warning

EDIT: Typos in the original post have been corrected. My apologies. EDIT I recently did a nitrox dive using 36% with the sand at 95ft. Therefore, no chance of going past PO2 = 1.4. However, right at the beginning of the dive, at around 85 ft, I realize my computer is beeping, and it says UP...

Weight for BP vs BCD: Is there a typical % drop?

I'm a newbie diver but transitioned to BP/W a couple years ago. 5'10 170lbs First 2 years of diving I rented standard jacket BCs and always wore 10lbs on a belt when diving a 3ml wetsuit and AL80. Since swapping to SS BP/W I wear no additional weights (no wetbelt) and feel completely neutral at...

Advice for Family Florida road trip with some divers

Just got back from long but fun trip. We decided to drive straight to Bonita Springs and get to the beach as fast as possible. Wife and kids enjoyed the resort hotel and beach while I went to conference, although I got some beach time also. On the way back we stopped one day at Busch Gardens...

Question about “balanced rigs” and having all ballast unditchable

I actually have a 30lb wing that I would use if I were a 7mm suit. In that case I would probably dive a HP100 and wear additional weight on a belt. The math says that in that situation I should still be floaty on the surface once the weight belt is ditched, and that I should be able to get up...

Question about “balanced rigs” and having all ballast unditchable

I thought I would post a newbie perspective. I dive primarily gulf coast saltwater in a 3mm full, rental Al80 with a steel BP and 20lb wing. In that situation, I do not require any additional weight and therefore do not carry 'ditchable weight' in the classic sense of a weight belt. The lack...

Advice for Family Florida road trip with some divers

I was trying to swing Key Largo, but its just too far away. Basically 3 hrs from the conference hotel, so cant drive there and back in a single day. I was thinking maybe we go there at the end of the conference for a couple days before heading home, but it adds another 4hrs to the ride home...
