Been a rough summer and I haven’t done any dives other than two in rental gear in Bermuda back in May. I’ve got a trip to Cozumel in September so really need to get wet and check my gear properly.
Anyone interested in diving with me at Clear Springs (now The Ranch) or Wheeler Branch on Sunday...
Also came here to say "Do it at home."
It's a weekend of being in the water... but you're not really doing dives. If you just have a ton of free time for the travel and such then go ahead... but I think it's much better to just knock it out at home and might score you more brownie points if you...
So pretty much unanimous (as I expected) that people should take Fundamentals before doing any Pro level certs... I figured. ;)
What about technical and freediving training? Or at least some experience?
I'm familiar with the adage of "do instructor training that leads to the kind of instruction...
Looking for some opinions and I expect they will be diverse... and that this probably isn't a "right or wrong" type of discussion but something with varying degrees.
I'm thinking of going Pro. I'd like to teach. Right now all my training is from one agency (SSI), although my instructor has done...
Oh man... I can enjoy watching shows like that but there is NO WAY I would open my life up to the type of ridicule I throw at the people on those shows! Haha.
Thanks! That's exactly the question now--I'd like to be moving to the Caribbean in the next year or 18 months to teach (and I'm looking to invest in property for income, too), so I'm considering doing DM training locally first then go do an Instructor course in the Caribbean.
This is all...
Yes, completely understood there. I'm looking at DM or DCS as a stepping stone to Instructor. It'll be a matter of convenience and timeline to choose whether I want to do DCS here in Texas with my LDS or go spend a few weeks or a month in warm water doing a DM program... then I definitely want...
(Sorry but not sorry to revive an old thread... but it's relevant.)
SSI seems to be rebranding or have rebranded the Dive Con title as Assistant Instructor. I'm seeing that AI title pop up WAY more on their site and literature.
Was there any kind of official announcement of that? Anyone get a...
We went either right before or right after the spawn... would love to see it.
The later in the year you go the higher risk you are at of the waves being far too high--I think they auto cancel any trip where the average wave height is over 24 or 28 inches or something like that.
Honestly, above...
I went back in September and had an absolute blast.
As someone mentioned above, pack light outside of your gear, as the bunks are tight.
Do be prepared for some tough entries and exits--the surf can get rough. Thankfully the DMs all seemed top notch and prepared you well for it if the...
Cool. Any idea if they plan to run a compressor and do fills? It's about 55 mins from my home shop (Aqua Trek) whereas CSSP is 90 or 100 minutes easily.
If it gets a good bit deeper that'd be nice.
Can anyone give me some insight into average or "normal" prices for airfare to Roatan from Dallas or an equivalent city?
I'm finding Delta and United for $878 per person with a stop in Houston.
We're traveling July 2nd and returning on the 9th of 2016. 4 adults, 3 kids, and 1 infant (so 7...
I love my Abyss 22! Fantastic reg.
Pieces of advice, though:
1) try to buy local. remember those LDSs are the ones making your local dives possible and will be providing you with bits and pieces of gear that you need NOW long term. Also, can be a good place to meet buddies.
2) Get certified...
