    Ear trouble after first dives

Thanks for the advice guys. Saw the doctor today. He said there's a lot of blood in my ears but that it should clear up in its own time. Feel better for getting it checked! He said that he's heard of middle ear barotrauma but this is the first time he's actually seen it. So a good day for him...

    Ear trouble after first dives

Hello! I completed my open water dives last week and really enjoyed the experience. However, I have been having ear problems since then which after doing some internet research I've realised sounds like middle ear barotrauma. (Stuffy ears and poor hearing but no pain). It has been 10 days and my...

    New diver having a flap

Hi again! Just had my third session in the pool and it was so enjoyable! I'd spoken to the centre about extra sessions and now the group has been split into smaller groups, so it is just me and another lady with one instructor. And we can do the course over 7 weeks instead of 5 so we can take...

    A fishy question

Hello! I have just started an OW course and one of the big reasons why I can't wait to get in the sea is because I really like fish. I was wondering if I could ask for some advice on what locations are best for fish spotting. European waters would be best for my bank balance but all advice would...

Finished up open water classes and I am really Bummed out.

I completely agree. So far I have only done 2 pool sessions on my OW course and surfaced twice due to inhaling water - which is such a scary feeling! But it's reassuring to learn from you guys that it's possible to cough through it and stay calm. I will definitely remember this whenever I am in...

    New diver having a flap

Haha! For now, 'long and flat' is working just nicely for me! When I need to get more technical I'll ask very cautiously...

    New diver having a flap

Thank you all for the advice, reassurance and sharing of experiences. I'm feeling much more confident about going back into the water now. I'm going to go to the dive centre to ask about some private sessions and perhaps treat myself to a mask and snorkel while I am there :D Pleased to find...

    New diver having a flap

It is rental gear from the shop. I was using a buddy's alternate and the water wouldn't clear from it despite me giving it 2 blows and purging it. I'll have another go with it and make enquiries if it happens again. However I'm inclined to think it was my technique more than anything else.

Newbie wanting to learn to dive...

Hi Bmorebirds_24! I've been in a similar situation to you (30 years young, wanted to dive for ages but got put on the back burner because of lack of interest from others...) however I live in the UK so not really buddy material! I've just started a PADI Open Water Diver course at my local pool...

    New diver having a flap

Thank you both for the advice. It is a PADI course that I am doing (perhaps I should be learning through BSAC!) and I will be doing my open water dives in Croatia. However I would also like to explore UK waters, particularly around Scotland. I bet there are some great fish up there. I will see...

    New diver having a flap

Thanks Wookie! The class I am doing is 5 classroom and pool sessions, spread out over 5 weeks. I'm probably just really slow! :confused6: Don't think the dive centre offers anything different.

    New diver having a flap

Hi all! Just signed up to this site as it seems like an excellent network for divers and I'm enjoying looking through some of the posts. My name is Laura and I have started an OW course. I just had my 2nd session in the pool last night and I'm worrying because I feel so clumsy with everything...
