    Junk in my MK10+

Beachnik, Aluminum oxide should be quite "gritty" (you've already tasted it, why not give it a chew?). This looks more like plastic - teflon or something like that. Would you agree? How on earth could so much "aluminum oxide" work its way into the threads like that, leaving none on the filter...

    First incident - free flow

ComputerJoe, My understanding was that he did pass off his primary. Why is not having a reg in your mouth stressful? You know where the regulators are. If you practice, you can easily pass off a reg without flooding it. There is also a big difference between a forceful purge and a short...

    First incident - free flow

Hi Elan, Sorry for beating you up on this. I'd just like to give you a few things to think about. Diving is a funny thing, and sometimes equipment solutions to perceived problems can cause problems themselves. You see this all the time. It is probably a good thing that you surfaced, since...

    First incident - free flow

Elan, Good to hear that no harm was done! I'd say that it's a bit odd that you were concerned about how long your pony would last. In general, it's good form to plan your gas supply.... What size is the pony? If you sling it like a stage, then it's easy to see the pressure gauge (you have...

UTD Rec 3 in Monterey, Feb 20-22

Hi all, I'm looking for a buddy (or buddies) for Andrew Georgitsis' Rec 3 course (Helitrox) this February. If you look up the calendar at Unified Team Diving you will find all the details. I'm a fairly advanced recreational diver with 200-odd dives and a tech pass in GUE fundies. Most of...

    DUI CLX450 vs TLS350

Dan, One more thing - it seems to me that DUI tends to cut the arms too short. I have a buddy who is sending his custom suit back for this reason. The arms are about an inch too short on mine also - so that the seal is quite exposed. It's not much of an issue with my dry gloves however...

    DUI CLX450 vs TLS350

Dan, I have a 15 year old TLS 350 and my wife has a 3 year old CLX 450. The 450 is significantly heavier and takes more than twice as long to dry. You'll be happier with the 350. While you are at it, I would recommend the CLX style overlay (more protection on the arms) and the old-style...

    anyone diving?

Dan, We've been diving lots (almost every weekend since mid May). I can't help noticing quite a bit of diving "apathy" though. More so on Lake Erie where the weather has not been kind (especially on weekends). We've had three trips that have either been canceled, or come close to it due to...

    Upstate NY newbies

Hey Mike, I'm in Rochester also. The lack of decent local diving generally sucks, but I'm still managing to go diving almost every weekend (when the water isn't solid). It just means a lot of driving... I can tell you of some good places - drop me a PM. Cheers, Jason.

June 28&29 on Osprey (Erie Wrecks)

Yes, we plan to do the Crystal and the Tradewind. The following day is undecided. It doesn't seem like there is any interest, but just in case, there are still a few spots available. Jason.

June 28&29 on Osprey (Erie Wrecks)

Dear LED folks, It was nice meeting you at the last meet and greet. I'm part of a dive club out of St. Catharines, Ontario that has chartered Jim Herbert's boat on June 28 and 29. Details can be found at: Osprey Charters Interactive Schedule The contact name is "Steve Rogers". We...

    What a Great Day!!

Yes, I've seen all the stuff at Sherkston. I must be going at the wrong time of year, because the vis always seems to be super-crappy. So, there probably aren't any great shore diving oportunities in the lake then! Glad you like the profile pic. If you look closely, you can see my wife...

    What a Great Day!!

That's what I figured. You'd think there would be somewhere closer, given that we are sitting right on the lake. I've been using Windmill Point Park for training purposes. It's close to Sherkston, but I like it better. I like to think there is slightly less E. Coli there, but I'm probably wrong.

    What a Great Day!!

Yeah, yesterday was nice, but I'm generally bummed about the overall lack of diving. Do you know of anywhere close by that's good for a quick dip (regardless of temperature)?

    Greetings from Rochester diver!

Hi everyone, I was thinking that it would be nice to meet some local divers! Both the wife and I have done quite a bit of diving in Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and the St. Lawrence, but we rarely meet people from Rochester! We usually dive every weekend in the summer months - we're leaning...
