    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

Like I originally mentioned, I just wanted the GoPro to continually run atop my stills rig so I could concentrate on taking photos (perhaps capturing some usable video while I did), and if something really video-worthy went in front of me all I would need to do is point the rig at whatever it is...

    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

Yes, not a huge inconvenience to start/stop. Was just hoping to not have two shutter buttons to worry about on a dive, and potentially miss one or the other shot.

    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

The Hero 9 may be *better* than a Hero 10 when it comes to overheating but based on what I've been researching I'm starting to get the feeling a 9 still won't be able to do a 45 minute non-stop recording when in a housing. This video shows the Hero 9 may be only marginally better: So I'm...

    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

I was researching the Paralenz unit. Dedicated diving action cam. Main upside is it doesn't require corrective filters, it changes its white balance based on measured depth. Downside is it's much more expensive than a GoPro and it does not (yet) do any image stabilization.

    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

My understanding is the new firmware simply provides a couple modes that "switch off" elements of the image processing to reduce load on the unit and reduce heat. For example, it now has something like "tripod mode" which switches off motion stabilization, because it isn't necessary when the...

    GoPro Hero 10 overheating issue

Hello, I purchased a Hero 10 and a GoPro U/W housing from Backscatter to mount on the top of my still camera housing, with the idea that I would simply start recording at the beginning of a dive and stop it at the end. (This would save me the trouble of having to start/stop recording, and...

Any RX100 VII field reports w/ Nauticam?

Ok, thanks for the clarification, that helps somewhat. I have the Nauticam housing for the Panasonic LX10, and I'm unhappy with it for multiple reasons, one of which is how much the lens needs to be zoomed with the Inon UWL-H100. The Fisheye Fix LD adapter does a good job of getting the Inon's...

Any RX100 VII field reports w/ Nauticam?

Wow, that's a little disheartening (and surprising) to hear you have to zoom to 35mm to eliminate vignetting with the WWL-1, because I believe the WWL-1 has a fairly large diameter rear element, even compared to the Inon UWL-H100 (which I own). This implies the vignetting issue would be even...

Any RX100 VII field reports w/ Nauticam?

My assumptions about the difficulty of super macro are based on Backscatter's review for them RX100 VI, which is physically (optically) identical to the VII. And the flip adapter for super macro is the proprietary unit for Nauticam's rectangular standard port, I'm not aware of any third party...

    Den Laman Pre-Trip Questions

Like scubadada I just left my camera gear sitting out. I was traveling alone and staying in one of the 2nd floor efficiencies. For my unit, the smaller balcony did not have any sort of drying rack or wall pegs but it may be different for the larger units.

Any RX100 VII field reports w/ Nauticam?

It also now has Active SteadyShot for 4K as well, which IMO is a nice addition. And the updated tracking focus finally looks reliable enough to be a big help underwater for shooting close/mid-range video of things like reef squid. It's a shame that Nauticam kits can't be ordered with a choice...

    Den Laman Pre-Trip Questions

I was there in Sept., and just had a couple comments on two of your questions: 1. I found the safe easily large enough for my laptop and other electronics. It probably would have fit the housing for my compact camera and my Inon strobes, but to be honest I never had concerns about theft, even...

Any RX100 VII field reports w/ Nauticam?

Just wondering if anyone has used this camera underwater, esp. with the Nauticam housing. I'm curious how well wide angle lenses like the Inon UWL-H100 will work when attached to the optional short port, can the camera be used zoomed fully wide without vignetting, if not, what is the equiv 35MM...

Bonaire - First Time, Solo Traveler

I can second that getting tanks from Dive Friends might be an issue if you do not have a dive buddy and don't have a solo cert card. It's not "illegal" to dive solo but they can reserve the right to refuse renting tanks to you. (It may be serving to sell their "self-reliant diver" course.) Some...

    Booties..... what do you recommend?

I thought the Mares Flexa DS 5mm boots worked well for me. Adequate sole sturdiness but the ankle wasn't too stiff. (Extra $0.02, when I started diving with lycra socks, my diving life became a lot easier.)

Shore Dive Experience Levels without Guide

My late contribution because I hadn't seen anyone else mention these yet -- I bought one of these poles to help with solo shore entries. (Item link) I did my entries with a camera rig hung from my chest D-rings. This gave me two free hands: one for my fins and one for the hiking pole. I really...

    Bonaire underwater maps?

At Invisibles Reef, the buoy at the reef edge is over 450 feet from shore. I decided it was much more prudent to swim to the buoy on the surface to help maintain my orientation (roughly a 10 min swim, which at my SAC would use up 6 of the 66 available cf just getting to the reef edge). In my...

    Bonaire underwater maps?

+1 (x10!) for the Reef Smart Guide: Bonaire book. It does have well-rendered underwater maps for most of the sites. The same publisher also makes waterproof map cards for a few sites, like these I bought several of the cards, but the ones that helped me out most during dives were the ones for...

    Solo cert on Bonaire?

I did the self-reliant course in Bonaire the week of 9/8 with Bart B. at Dive Friends, and thought it was a great experience. (I have a great respect for instructors who are able to teach so well while not using their first language.) I of course learned some new concepts, and got new insight on...

    Solo cert on Bonaire?

Interesting, perhaps it was something our dive shop simply wanted included with their AOW course. We got our AOW in Jupiter, FL, and because the diving there is a ways offshore in a sport fishing area, typically with currents, they may just want their students to be practiced with DSMB.
