Safe, easy, and legal. We've done it several times over the years. Limited parking available and a bit of a hike. Only about 10-15' max depth, sand bottom.
2 step is a must, and you really cant go wrong with any of the Kona shops. shore dives are definately hit and miss this time of year. Also Kohala divers is a great shop, and the dives are much different than the kona sites. I haven't done the pelagic dive, but the mantas are an amazing experience.
Kohala divers is a great shop, small 15 passenger boat. I dove with them Saturday, 10 divers in 2 groups. In Kona, Kona Honu, Kona Dive co. and Jacks are all very good, Jacks is the largest but still treats you right.
Another vote for Jack's, we dive with them often. I also have had great experiences with Kona dive company. Shore diving, 2 step is imo the best on the island. Mahukona is our go to local spot, super easy entry and exit and many things to see.
No aow needed for the manta dive, no currents to speak of at the main sites, surge can be a factor at the airport site. Last time I did the dive at the airport we had 22 mantas show.
+1 on the manta dive, the 2 tank dives will usually do both tanks at the same site, 2nd tank being the mantas
@+/- 30 ft. Kona Dive Company or Jacks are the shops I like. Shore or boat for the rest of your dives?
