Olympus TG-5 Underwater Camera and Housing Review

Note that shooting raw still pictures means all the information from the image sensor is stored. The manual or automatic white balance has no effect on this data. TG-5 can shoot raw format and that is what I use. Video is different as most cameras don't have the ability to store raw video data.

    Maximum SAC for Tech diving?

Of course, the SAC depends also on your body size and metabolic rate. There is a diver pair diving often in our group and it is quite funny looking odd couple as the small guy has small tanks 2x7l and the big guy has HUGE tanks 2x20l. When they go with rebreathers they are more matched. So I...

What computers are you using for tech dives?

I asked for references to the source code or algorithm description. I would be interested to see these because when I have run comparisons between different Bühlmann GF implementations there are large differences between implementations in decompression results with some cases of dive profiles...

What computers are you using for tech dives?

Hi John, Thanks for the feedback. Maybe my English is not good enough but I tried to say "why the algorithm works as it works" ... "with those gases", meaning that the algorithm gives a long decompression - WHY? - because of the gas switch is identified as ICD by the old Technical RGBM...

What computers are you using for tech dives?

Thanks Ken for clarifying. Yes you are right, that is not a gas switch with real concerns. I was blindly looking at what the Technical RGBM gave out, as the original post did run that algorithm. The TecRGBM algorithm does prolong ascent due to ICD (a bug maybe - I have no clue), so my answer...

What computers are you using for tech dives?

How funny that one word, perhaps wrongly chosen by me, not being natively English speaking, stirs up so much emotions. I should have used a less strong word than suicidal for people wanting to live on the edge, but could not think of one at that moment. I have seen so many divers dying just...

Olympus TG-5 Underwater Camera and Housing Review

In my opinion color correction filters for modern cameras are a waste of money. The filters only reduce the amount of light of certain wavelengths to the sensor. This can be equally well, or even with more precision, done digitally in post production. This is especially true shooting raw...

What computers are you using for tech dives?

Hi! I just jumped here following a link from another thread. I feel I have to comment on this although it is an old post. I did not see anyone else reacting on the ICD in this dive when I quickly browsed other following posts. Switching from 21/35 to EAN50 gives you an ICD hit. The Bühlmann...

Suunto EON Core? Where did this come from?

I'm amused how my clarification about differences between Eon Steel and the new Eon Core stirs up a dive algorithm discussion. I don't want to get involved in a religious debate but I feel I have to correct some misinformation for the readers of this thread. It is true that in Suunto Fused...

Suunto EON Core? Where did this come from?

This was not a dive algorithm thread but it seems to be a sensitive issue. Yes, the Bühlmann GF is still popular although the RGBM is more advanced. I would not call Bühlmann GF state-of-the-art, just popular with a certain small group of divers. I believe there are not many decompression...

Suunto EON Core? Where did this come from?

Sorry I was not clear enough. The RGBM algorithm has been validated against Navy dives by Bruce Wienke of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Meaning that the database of a large numer of their dive profiles and the outcome has been checked computationally against the RGBM algorithm using their...

Suunto EON Core? Where did this come from?

Regarding the original post, I don't know what currency you quoted but definitely not US $. The recommended price for Eon Core is 699 euros. Suunto EON Core Black dive computer with color screen and big numbers The Eon Core is not primarily targeted to tek divers, so it is a bit funny to see...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

I now got confirmation that according to service instructions the older Tank Pods are indeed still being replaced by new ones directly if they are brought to a service point. But it might be that some service point have not read the instructionw or some might not even have received the...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

I have escalated my request to remove the battery indication from Eon Steel. That will fix all this trouble if and when a Eon firmware update will bring this fix. I really believe that divers should be able to replace the Tank Pod battery regularly without the indication. After all, the...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

If the LED is really broken (check in a dark room - it is really dim) you are entitled to a repair/replacement, if you wish to have it working. Also, if the serial number starts with 14, and you have a low battery indication, they will replace your Pod under warranty service. The newer Pods...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. Are you sure the battery was really empty? Do not trust the battery indication - I hope it will be removed! Also, myself I can never see the faint LED blinking unless during a night dive or in a completely dark room (Tank Pod must be pressurised too, of...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

The older Suunto wireless transmitter for D-series, Vyper and HelO2 did not have battery indication. Divers usually have no problem servicing their equipment regularly, like changing the Tank Pod battery every 2 year or 200-300 dives. In doing so and remembering to remove pressure on surface...

BEWARE EON Steel POD batteries DOA out of box new! Very Disappointing

My humble apologies about the battery indicator problem. First check that the serial number does not start with 14. The service centers have instructions to replace those with newer pods. But it seems all service points do not always follow instructions. The newer pods tolerate better static...

Great! Seems the warranty period for Tank Pods have been recently extended.

Eon Steel - anticipated Tank Pod battery life

Hi! Sorry to hear that you still have trouble with the Tank Pods. I replied to your private message but will also reply here for other's who follow this thread. I think with POD 1 you unfortunately you got a bad replacement. It is rare but can happen that although tested at factory they break...
