That's a pretty good plan! Reading the Garuda website on valuable/breakable items and excess cabin baggage it appears to indicate that if its excess then you can carry it on for a fee..... Hmmm.
My plan was to have my actual carry-on bag of 7kg be packed in such a way that I could check it at the gate. Garuda told me via email that if my carry-on was overweight at the gate, I could check the bag.
I think my plan will be to simply have the most delicate equipment in my carry-on at 7kg...
So I loaded up a photographer vest with just about all my camera gear. Total weight is 15lbs. Does not include my housing or camera. But does include all 3 lens, ports, 2 strobes and batteries.
Think this will pass the test at the gate? It will easily fold in half and fit under the seat. I...
Thanks again. Guess it will be loading the carry-on up to 7kg with the breakable camera gear and the rest going in my checked bag. :) Side note: I spent a few years living in Auckland. Miss diving great barrier island!
If I have to check a bag, it will only be about 10kg, so I assume I should be good to go? We are on an Airbus from Singapore to Makassar, then switch to a bombadier turbo prop from Makassar to Sorong. Our bag will be checked all the way to Sorong from Singapore.
Can you purchase extra allowance for carry-on? All my gear combined, with clothes is about 15kg, well under the check-in allowance. I'd love to be able to carry all 15kg in the cabin with me....
Thanks for the info. We are staying at Misool Eco Resort and on a tight time schedule landing in Sorong and then boat to the island. If the bags are delayed...its rental gear for us! :)
Thanks for the quick reply. If I wear a photo vest with my camera gear on the vest, do you think they would be ok with that? If I have to check some of my dive gear, I can live with that. I'll make sure my camera gear is within the 7kg limit if I need to check the other bag...
I'm flying to Sorong next week for a trip to Misool. The carry-on allowance is 7kg. I emailed reservations and they told me the 7kg applies to both the overhead bag and personal bag for under the seat. They told me that if it weighs over it will not be permitted in the cabin.
I recently...
Holy Moly I'm pretty darn sure thats them! The time frame is right. I thought they had disappeared, or was told as much back then. And Bourgainville was indeed where we were advised not to go. I remembered they were told NOT to go there but did anyway. My memory is far from perfect though...
We were told at the time to avoid that area due to piracy. They went there and werent heard from again. We were told it was pirates. Could have been just a boating accident I suppose. In the circumnavigating community it was not uncommon to have people board and burglarized/assaulted in the...
This was about 15 years ago. Small private sailboat. Non-divers, just cruisers part of the circumnavigating community. If I remember correctly it was just a husband and wife. Probably won't find any details about it on the net. I think at the time there was an area of the Solomon Islands you...
Its hard to pick a favorite and lots of the islands don't really have names. My favorites were tiny uninhabited atolls. :) I'd say my favorite named area was locally called Budi Budi. Its about 40 miles due east of Muyua Island. There are three tiny islands in a semi-circle. Google has...
Thank you all for the replies! What great suggestions! I'm going to have a look at them all today.
Wingy - Nosy Be looks amazing! Too bad it will be cyclone season. We had been planning a dream Africa trip and that might be perfect to work a week in there first during the dry season in...
Agreed. Didn't mean to scare anyone off. I highly recommend it to anyone considering it. In fact this thread has me looking for dates to visit Tawali in 2018. :)
