9 or 10 days in French Polynesia....how much time in Moorea, Fakarava, and Rangiroa?

Flights are expensive down there, it's a life saver to fly between islands/atolls of the same group (see Tuamotus pass or Australes pass), also flights were just two per week for Fakarava, not sure about Rurutu. I'd love to go to the Austral islands actually, but not for diving: I heard that...

    Okinawa/Ishigaki water temperatures in March?

I went there in March 2015, Ishigaki was okay, 24-ish as far as I can recall (outside temperature was between 25 and 27°, I didn't have much problems ad enjoyed my dives without any problem, dives were not too deep either. We spotted BIG mantas at Manta point even though the Instructor later...

9 or 10 days in French Polynesia....how much time in Moorea, Fakarava, and Rangiroa?

Went two times in Fakarava and once in Rangiroa, on the other hand I'd give a skip to Moorea: 9 days ain't that much for all three islands and there's a reason why those two are highly touted for diving while Moorea (and Bora Bora for that matter) isn't. Fakarava doesn't have resorts but I found...

    French Polynesia 2018

Hello everybody, with 2020's diving being completely off for me and with 2019 kinda unfortunate with my Achilles tendon injury, I have to resort to 2018 and my videos of my time in French Polynesia: a tiny bit of Maupiti and Bora Bora, a bit more of Tikehau and Rangiroa and quite a lot of "Her...

    Best diving location in Japan

I used Peach air and can reccomend, much cheaper compared to ANA or JAL (yuk!). For Yonaguni you can only use Ryukyu air (JAL) and it doesn't come cheap. Besides I also went to Miyako-jima and while there werent' that many fishes or corals, I enjoyed the dives in the caves (Devil's den) and the...

    Best diving location in Japan

I went to Yonaguni but the winds (late March 2015) kept me from diving in the famous Underwater Monument, tough break. But I could dive (water temp 21-23°, warm water provided for pouring inside the wetsuit) on the other side of the island, in the blue, to spot hammerheads: first dive we saw...

First time Fakarava - do I have enough time?

Thete is no comparison really, Garuae (north pass) is wider therefore the marine life, sharks especially, are more spread out. It's very good diving indeed but IMO it pales in comparison with Tumakohua (south) pass: the pass here is much narrower so the sharks patrolling the channel are much...

French Polynesia, who to dive with?

Well, the following morning we got to at least going to Tetamanu even if not with a diving trip: fair enough, the most important thing was to show my gf how wonderful is the marine life there (snorkeling is top notch for obvious reasons) and what a paradise are "le sable rose". I'll go...

French Polynesia, who to dive with?

In a sad turn of events, I'm at Fakarava in this moment and I will be forced to skip the daytrip to the south pass as no diving outfit goes there because of unusually strong wind. With only three nights here (I couldn't really stay more this time) I knew it wouldn't be a done deal having the...

French Polynesia, who to dive with?

Actually I'm leaving in a week and will be in Fakarava in early May. October will be Japan (again)... BTW Vincent replied at last so things are moving in the right direction :callme:

French Polynesia, who to dive with?

Well, here's the thing with Fakarava as of now. I will stay again in the north and last year I did some dives with Dive Spirit but all the staff has changed meanwhile so I was thinking to go with Kaina Plongee, with whom I went to the South Pass, but I didn't receive any answer to the mails I...

Japan's Galapagos - Diving the Ogasawara Islands

I like the fact that they're the perfect escape from the ultra-modern Japan (especially from Tokyo!). I do have somebody who can help me out with the japanese and contacts down there. Diving will be just one (and probably smaller) side of the trip, I find your article very useful on this aspect.

Japan's Galapagos - Diving the Ogasawara Islands

I've been in Japan six times (and soon I will go there again) but the Ogasawaras still elude me. I tried to contact a couple of diving ops last year but received no reply (kinda expected that) which put me off and decided to head elsewhere in Japan. Will go there though, soon hopefully.

Cook Islands - any rec not experiences?

I wonder if Rarotonga is the place to dive or Aitutaki. Any suggestion?

Jellyfish Lake in Palau officially re-opens.

I see, well I went there indeed for the diving but without jellyfish lake I felt like I went to Rome without visiting the Colosseum.

Jellyfish Lake in Palau officially re-opens.

Thanks for the pics, still very few compared to what they were just before the El Nino of 2016. I'll wait until the numbers were as before (if they ever manage to reach those numbers), I cannot overcome the delusion I had when they closed the lake few weeks before I headed there.

French Polynesia, who to dive with?

I just had to smile reading this. Totally felt this way (even if as a man): had an overwater bungalow on IC Thalasso in Bora Bora (the only lone idiot with another twenty or so couples around... the stares I had at dinner LOL!), Caramelline Patisserie made me chuckle (expensive but can't skip I...

    Ahe or Manihi in FP

Hello everybody, as I'm going back to French Polynesia in about three months (everything, diving included, was TOO GOOD) I'm looking to visit one new atoll in my trip: given the dates, Ahe and Manihi are the candidates. Unfortunately I can find very little informations regarding the two and even...

    China travel ban to Palau

So Palau can finally open up the jellyfish lake again :eyebrow: A couple of notes on the article I read: "Palau stunning beaches"... do they mean the only artificial beach they have, out of the PPR? o_O Also "Palau will rebrand itself as a luxury destination": geez, with the prices they have...
