    Dive conditions in Utila?

The reefs are in really good shape generally and there is a fair amount of variation in topography of sites on different sides of the island. There is great variety in the marine life from the macro stuff including nudibranch, pipefish, seahorses etc. and the typical larger stuff like turtles...

And if you are looking for a more full service experience Utopia Village would also be an excellent option. It is a small intimate resort with great service and lots of small personalized touches to help make a anniversary or celebration even more special. There some reviews on Scuba board and...

Trip Report Trip Report: Alton's Dive Center, Utila. Late May 2019

Dear Ironborn. I am the owner of Utopia Village and wanted to apologize to you for your experience trying to book with us. After reading your excellent trip report, I was disappointed to learn about your experience with the bookings process. I followed up with our bookings person and reviewed...

Trip Report Dive Report: Utopia Village, Utila Honduras

In our opinion diving in Utila is good year round. The rainy season is typically somewhere during October to January but can vary a lot. During that time the water temperatures drop from the low-to-mid eighties down to the high-seventies-low eighties. The resort closes during October and early...

Cash is not needed while on the resort. Both the gift store and bar will keep a tab during the week and at the end you can settle with credit card or cash. The things that are optional and not included in the package are - drinks (there is no charge for coffee and tea, fruit juice at breakfast...

    looking for input on Utila

I am one of the owners of Utopia Village. If you are looking for a dive-oriented vacation in a remote/quiet but beautiful location, I think you will really enjoy Utopia Village. The resort sits on the south west side of the island, several miles from the only town on the island - it is boat...

Trip Report Dive Report: Utopia Village, Utila Honduras

On your first comment: We are not normally closed in March through May. It is the busiest time of the year for us. But we do sometimes block off a week or two to allow us and our staff time-off (or if there is low demand for a week). This year we made the decision to give them time off over...

Trip Report Dive Report: Utopia Village, Utila Honduras

We are sorry we were not open the week your trip was planned. We hope you will consider us in the future. March and April are normally our busiest months during the year and we are not typically closed over Easter. But this year we made a difficult decision to close the two weeks over Easter to...

Trip Report Dive Report: Utopia Village, Utila Honduras

On most sites the boats will tie up to a dive buoy. There are some sites where there aren't any dive buoys, and there the dive will be a "drift dive". But on Utila. there is little to no current on the vast majority of the dive sites, so "drift dives" are really just relaxing one way dives . How...

    An Amazing week on Utila

For us we moved here 5 years ago and live on the south shore of Utila too. Utila has a reputation of being a backpacker / partying destination. And that is partially correct if you decide to stay in town. But for people that are looking for something different, it can be a wonderful destination...

    An Amazing week on Utila

The past week was awesome with whale shark sightings 3 days in a row of the eastern side of the island.

The boat rides range from between 5 minutes to 45 minutes. There are dive sites less than 5 minutes away from the resort in each direction. The furthest dive site is around 40-45 minutes away on the north side.

The dock is right in front of the resort (see photo). It was built 2 years ago. On a typical week there are 2 scheduled/guided shore dives (one on the first day and one night dive). But guests can do as many additional ones as they like. The entry from the dock (versus wading in from shore) has...

Here is a link to a Scubaboard thread from 2016 where Giffenk reviews a Utila resort, but he also reviewed CCV. He visited both on the same trip. The first post doesn't have the CCV link, but if you scroll down just a bit it has links to both the review (UV on Utila and CCV on Roatan): Utopia...

We have not added AC (the building is like a big screened porch). But we did upgrade the fans - we have top of the line Big Ass Fans that have excellent air circulation. We also do several meals in other locations during the week.

    Exploding Tank in Utila

Pigeon Cay is a small fishing village (a tiny pair of islands connected by a walking bridge) on the south-west side of Utila (the smallest of the Bay Islands). The small community is devastated by the loss of a young girl, and the trauma suffered by the older gentleman. Because there is a lot of...

    What kind of Reef shark?

Thank you again for sharing your insights. My guess it it was about 6 foot (maybe 7 long). We are excited that there are sharks (other than nurse sharks) at our dock, and Lemon sharks are very rarely seen around Utila (unless they are being mis-identified as some other kind of shark). We are...

    What kind of Reef shark?

A follow up question: A local on Utila said the one reason it may not be a Lemon Shark is that their teeth are typically more visible. Especially on the 1st part of the video, the teeth don't seem to be visible at all. Any thoughts on that comment/question?
