    Dive trips from Brisbane ?

Oh, I didn't see these replied (the notification thing doesn't work for some reason?) Unfortunately it's not an option to go to Cairns for a full week, but I found some advice on the Lonely Planet that looks good: Fitzroy Reef and Lady Musgrave Island, off the town of 1770, about 400km north of...

    Dive trips from Brisbane ?

Thanks Tortuga :) It looks like you've been to both the Moreton bay area and the southern end of GBR - would you say it's worth travelling the extra 1000km? Or are the dives near Brisbane just as good?

    Dive trips from Brisbane ?

Hello everyone ! I haven't been active in a very long time, but when I found myself having a dive-related dilemna recently, I thought of SB! ;) So, here goes - I am going to visit my mother one last time in Vanuatu in May, and since I have a stop over in Brisbane, I thought I'd take the...

    Laser Hair Removal

Sorry to say that you won't only see that in Switzerland...but also in France...Germany... most European countries are/were unshaved....but thank goodness that now mostly the younger generations are picking up a shaver.... Oh my God, this is SUCH a cliché... We french women have bare legs...

    Buddy system question

Your question is very interesting since, in France, we don't use the buddy system. We have a "palanquée" (a group of divers that are supposed to stay together within eyesight). A "palanquée" can include from one to 5 (if I recall well) people, instructor ot included. But they're not "paired up"...

    The Blonde Joke...

I have to admit blonde jokes do make me laugh, and of course I also love jokes about men (we have lots of them in France)... Anything funny will make one laugh, I think you should try not to take them personnally. I don't really think they're sexist jokes. Peace on earth :)

Might be diving solo in December

"I routinely dive shallow reefs solo." That's what I plan on doing. Shallow dives on my mom's reef, after having taken a good, deep look at it with a buddy. "A much, much better way would be for you to send me a plane ticket, then you won't have to dive solo." Well, I'll just open a...

Might be diving solo in December

CESA : I was trained to do that thing from a 20 meters depth, I guess I'll limit myself to 18 meters then. "These would be the things you are taught in your first OW class including ditching your weights, inflating your BCD at the surface, keeping your mask on, staying calm, and so on."...

Might be diving solo in December

Thanks for your answer, reefraff. As I'm french, I still have a few questions regarding some vocabulary : - what is a dinky pony bottle ? - what is an SMB ? - what is a CESA ? Apart from those words I don't understand, I like your rules. I don't think I know what "self-rescue techniques"...

Might be diving solo in December

Okay, that sounds a bit like Lao-Tseu, the chinese philosopher :) I feel ready. It's just that I heard so much about how dangerous it was that I thought coming here and ask for some tips might be an intelligent idea. If you tell me it's just a matter of feeling ready or not, then I'll go go...

Going to the Vanuatu Islands... any tips ?

Thanks a lot for all the information, that's very valuable... I hope my mom will follow me to all those places ! She doesn't dive, she's a snorkelling addict, but I guess there will be some nice stuff for her to enjoy too. Cheers !

    my diving life

I think it's good to have at least 150 to 200 dives under your belt to engage in a DM course... I've seen DMs with less dives than me, and it's not that reasssuring !!

Might be diving solo in December

Hey, As i said in another thread, my mom moved to the Vanuatu Islands (next to the Fidji) so I'm flying over to visit her for Xmas. She does not dive, only enjoys snorkelling. My usual dive buddy is not ging to come with me, as the plane ticket is very, very expensive. My mom has her...

    Your personal experience

My personal two cents : when you feel that you're in a tough spot and begin panicking a bit, STOP and breathe. I know that's what you'll be taught, but I've seen many people go on diving even if they're panicking. This may result in a very, very bad way. I felt myself starting panicking once...

Going to the Vanuatu Islands... any tips ?

Hi there My mom recently moved to the Vanuatu Islands (next to the Fidji) and I'm going to visit for Xmas. Apart from the President SS Coolidge, are there any other areas that are worth diving ? I'll be staying in Port Vila, as this is where my mom lives, but I'm definitely going to be...
