7mm neck tear - 2" chunk - sew or glue?

I bought a little tube of Aquaseal at the LDS but now that I'm sitting down to do it, I'm realizing the 2" piece that tore out of the neck contracted a lot, and is smaller than the hole it left. Better to sew maybe? (I hope not), or just go at it with Aquaseal? Never used the stuff before...

    Hollis DG03 perspective

Aside from a couple rentals, the vast majority of my computer experience is with my DG03. I get along with it fine, but after using it for years I still don't find it intuitive and I find myself digging out the manual more often than I figure I should have to. Is this just the nature of most...

    Night Diving at Pearl Lake

I've been diving at Pearl Lake before - neat little place in South Beloit with a fair amount of sunken features. This time I took the family camping there and figured we'd do a night dive, since they advertise that on their website. (A word of warning: The private owners have rules. Lots of...

Permit required for Navy Pier & area?

Many years ago before I was certified, I saw a diver (well, the SMB anyway) bobbing along the shoreline downtown. In hindsight, I can only assume s/he was treasure hunting, which sounds like a great idea! Does anyone know if we need to register or get a permit for such, or can we go just get wet?

    Told to NOT seek treatment

Just idly curious if anyone has had DAN or a physician tell them they didn't need to seek treatment. Seems to me in this litigious world that if you think enough of your situation to call DAN or a doc, they are going to send you - if for no other reason than so they don't get sued later...

    Don't worry little buddy

No doubt most of you have seen it, but I feel the need to try and help lighten the mood around here after yesterday...

Comparing tanks of different sizes and pressures

I initially wanted to know exactly how much of an upgrade a HP100 (@3442psi) represented over an AL80 (@3000psi), i.e. how much more air was I going to have. This has sent me down an rabbit hole from which I'd like to request some help to escape. This post explains "Tank Factors" which at...

Upcoming Dive and Travel Expo.. worth it?

I've never been to the annual Dive Expo even though I see the billboard every year. This is what I'm talking about if you don't know: http://ourworldunderwater.com/chicago Anyone been to this? Is it worth going? The website doesn't say much....

    gators and crocs, oh my!

It occurred to me, I've never heard of a story of a gator or croc attack. A quick search here only yielded one thread about a non-fatal bite on a golf ball diver. I read about Florida freshwater cave and lake diving, but seldom is a mention of these critters. And yet it's not at all hard to...

    securing cylinders in transit

PRO TIP: you know that 20lb propane tank you use for your grill (and homebrew stand, and turkey frier...)? It fits perfectly in a milk crate for secure transport! Now, what's the equivalent for our scuba tanks? There's gotta be some genius solution out there. How do you secure your tanks...

Where do you keep your snorkel?

I don't use my snorkel enough to justify puchasing a folding one (which reportedly suck anyway), and a long hose setup precludes me from keeping it strapped to my head (as if I'd want to do that). But every now and again I find myself kinda wishing I had it on me... so I'm working on rigging...

    Delta P

I have no idea how I stumbled upon this as I sit surfing youtube at midnight in the middle of the week, but if you're into retro documentaries, you'll probably enjoy watching the whole thing. Regardless of who you are, however, if you have a heartbeat and at least one eyeball, you'll be glad...

Scuba Tech Tips w/ Alec Peirce on YouTube

For the past week or so I've been catching up on this series on YouTube. It's by Alec Peirce, a 70 year old veteran scuba diver with lots of experience in both the water and the shop. Lots and lots of videos, usually in the neighborhood of 10-20 minutes each, on just about any topic you can...

getting a DG03 into the @!#$!@ bungee mount

Just bought myself my first dive computer - $200 for the discontinued DG03 from dive gear express, woo hoo! (Actually, I bought 2, one for myself, one for my daughter). Also ordered the bungee mounts, as I'm a solid convert for those things. When they arrived, FOR THE LIFE OF ME I couldn't...

    shipping gear within US

Did a search, all threads are >4 years old (w/ warning "you sure you want to resurrect this thread?") and/or about international shipping, and given the change in the landscape since 2008 with TSA and also gas prices/shipping costs, I'd love to see if anyone has recent experience with shipping...

    Unexpected finds

No doubt it exposes me for the novice that I am, but my daughter and I had a great time playing with a bowling ball we found on a platform in a quarry. To these two inexperienced divers, it was quite the novel treat, and very unexpected. Which leads me to wonder what unexpected things have...
