Awesome piece of equipment for diving with your spouse!

The proximity of the divers is too much like sitting in the car, having the Mrs. give me directions while holding the gps... No thanks... Im good...

How early is too early to progress your diving?

Rred... I see your point about the extra weight... but... Twinsets definitely beat the singles in safety. Speaking more than just air volume of course, the manifold immediately adds a margin of safety for the redundant air source. Ability to isolate a failed reg and safely ascend on you're own...

How early is too early to progress your diving?

GUE teaches Single Tank, Doubles, and Sidemount for OC. All with training that includes stage bottles and proper rigging. Keep your single wing and STA. It will come in handy. Basically, have fun with nailing buoyancy in all of the standard equipment configurations. Dive them all to develop...

Pros and cons of various compasses ?

I prefer a wrist mount on the left wrist. Forget all the gimmicky compasses. Expensive ones mounted to slates, on retractors, doofers and gizmos... all just waiting to get entangled, broken, lost... Wrist mount basic compass. Pick your brand... so long as it's an actual diving compass. Easy...

    New instructor here

Congrats on your IE pass Ducky! We all start somewhere. It's all in what you decide to become now. A crotchety curmudgeon, or a genuinely helpful instructor. Stay a student yourself and keep learning. There's some great folks on SB from which to glean wisdom. You'll see them shine through...

Why ‘everyone is responsible for their own risk-based decisions’ isn’t the right approach to take

On a micro scale, I agree that improving the system is clearly the choice. Dive Operations and Shops can refocus efforts and clean house if necessary to improve student performance. On an industry scale, not so simple. (Warning DIR Argument) I think the quality/safety issue has a lot to do...

Training can you do too much too soon?

Melanie, great question... good convo starter. The squishy answer, it depends on you and the instructor you choose. Find a quality instructor or shop. I get itchy when I here the "Deal."..... "We can do your AOW (5 dives) and each of those dives count toward your specialty, Oh and by the...

Virginia has plenty of wrecks off the coast. Actually, New Jersey to South Carolina has great wreck diving. Some are bit deep... but lots of history.

    Equalizing ear problems

ouch... yep. stay clear of meds that wear off. Basically, the mucus and other blockages will return and then will plug the tubes at depth, then as you ascend the air in the tubes and inner ear begin to expand... if it can't escape into the throat (normal ear/sinus pathways) then it will be...

MAKE ME SWEAT! Name your WARMEST Drysuit Undergarment!!

I'll need some info on your Alaska Cut. My shoulders are immediately locked down in my dry suit, yet it's not undersized. I think its the undergarment binding in the shoulders. In my 7mm semi dry, no issues at all with a comfortable valve drill. Dry suit, It gets done, but it ain't pretty.

    Equalizing ear problems

So... recommendations, Make sure you're not congested or sick before the dive. Try to stay clear of meds that can wear off while underwater. Definitely attempt to clear your ears before descending. If you're training with PADI, it's already part of the 5 point descent (SORTED.. E-Equalize...
