    Comfo-Byte for Apeks question.

AL comes in two sizes - small and standard.

    Comfo-Byte for Apeks question.

I’ve had regs with the Apeks Comfobite and the AL Comfobite. The AL Comfobite is superior. Fits much better than the Apeks one. You want the ones that show “made in France.” They’re expensive but worth it.

    A new normal...

Sciatica hurts like freaking hell. I have piriformis syndrome aka false sciatica. The piriformis muscle gets irritated and clamps down on the sciatic nerve. I have the same shooting pains down my leg, etc. Deep tissue/trigger point massage works for me.

    Diving "Conservative" vs Nitrox

I used to dive nitrox all the time when diving OC. Now I’ve got the rebreather, I’ve got a nitrox mixing machine on my back. 😂

    A new normal...

Fanning Spring is VERY handicapped accessible for getting into the water as I remember it from Christmas 2022. There are aluminum ramps down into the water where the water was maybe waist deep. Long ramp to the spring itself from parking lot. It’s shallow. I think the spring boil itself is only...

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

With the diving I do, Great Lakes, cave, local lakes and such, there are no DMs. I’ve never been on a dive led by a DM. You set up your own gear. No one is going to be setting up my rebreather but me. Now if someone wants to help haul gear, hell, yes, I’ll take that help. I had a paid porter...

Brand new, life forced my "bucket list"

Shops in the US (outside of touristy areas, such as FL) generally require students to have their own mask, snorkel, fins, and booties.

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

Here in the US, you’d possibly have issues getting tanks filled or tank rentals if you don’t have an OW cert. Some shops might not check, but where I am, they want to see that card.

    Braided vs Rubber Hoses

The only thing I don’t like braided hoses for is a long hose. They kink up and go floaty. Otherwise, I use both. I’ve had no issues.

    Trip planning advice

I was in Playa for a week two years ago (cave diving). Lodging and food were much cheaper than I’m used to from US travels. I live in a high COL area. You definitely wouldn’t get a porter to haul gear up and down the cenote steps for $25 a day (500 pesos).
