Honestly I prefer to use the dive shop on the resort, if it has a good reputation. Actually, recently I've been looking to book only resorts with a dive shop with good reviews. It's so much more convenient.. Go out at 8, have breakfast, do 2 dives, and back on the beach at 11:30.

In the beginning the instructor said I might be allowed to do it on the 4th dive... Then before the dive he said he strongly advises against using it, but it's up to me. I wanted to do it because... you know... if it's not on Facebook then it didn't happen.

Since my wife doesn't dive, it wouldn't be a "dive vacation", but I'll take half a day (or 2 half days if allowed) for a 2 tank dive trip. I heard about the DAN insurance before, thanks for reminding, will definitely look into that before going. And yeah, I expect many people on a vacation trip...

Fmerkel is right, I was a bit confused with the middle/outer ears in the beginning. (yeah yeah I know it was in the PADI course...). I think it's getting better, I keep testing with headphones. Hopefully the issue will be gone soon. Is there a risk this would happen again next time I dive? Or...

One more question... do you think there's any reason i should avoid getting water in my [outer] ears (going in the pool)? Could that affect this in any way?

I agree 100%, but the first 2 dives, when the problems started, were just skills done on a platform 30 feet deep. So all within 4-5 feet variation. But every time, once I got past around 25 feet, and managed to fully equalize, I had no issue. And the reason I fully agreed is that my buoyance is...

You just pour that in your ear? Is this something I should consider doing it now? (I read about alcohol, didn't know about the mix).

Yes, that's my main concern, a possible infection (assuming that's lake water that's trapped in there, so probably not the most clean water possible). But isn't that usually treated with antibiotics?

And that will mostly be due to the asteroid that's hitting us tomorrow. Or the dirty water at the Olympics.

Thank you for your responses! And the instructor did tell me to stop if I feel any pain, but that 2nd day, I really had no issues with my ears or any kind of other discomfort. I'm also sure I did a lot better, probably it was the first dive where I kinda forgot to equalize enough. So I'll wait...

I just became certified this weekend, and was wondering how come all your diving history would be tied to that book which is easy to lose, can get wet and ruined... It's 2016, isn't there a certified online equivalent??

This weekend I went for my 4 certification dives (quarry, fresh water, quite warm). I did a Discover Scuba a few months ago in the Carribean, and while it was fun, I had big trouble equalizing my ears. Back to the weekend, Saturday I had major trouble equalizing on the 2nd dive. No major pain...
